So, I know..almost over-kill to mention I'm having the same problem..BUT, it seems (through my observation over the last 5 years in this game) these kinds of unsolvable problems only happen on weekends - when no one's on the the other end of the technical support phone call) *sigh*

..Not tryin to start a huge 'ole debate or anything..but I'm curious..why is it SoE continues to come out with expansions, when the problems, some of which they've had since launch, haven't been fixed?

(PLEASE don't tell us that it's to stay at the top of the marketing scheme in order to rake in the cash because OTHER games are coming out with X-packs and you hafta be competative..because that's just poor marketing IMO..you may gain some cash by selling the expansion, but effectively, you lose subscribers due to lack of working data and features whereas if everything was being worked on effectively and efficiently, the amount of virtual income would be timeless and larger over-all)..JUST CURIOUS!

And, thanks..

um... partly i agree with you (see the memory issue ppl are having) but in this current case im not sure it has anything to do with the new expansion. a downed HW or anything similar could have rendered the login server inaccessible.

The thing that bugs me is that when any of my servers go down (related to my job) I get alerts via every method imaginable! In additions (as we all should be) we are then responsible for keeping the impacted people up-to-date on what the issue is and when it will be resolved.

For Tunare's sake, higher some lowly intern to babysit or something. Buy a backup load balancer to manage you "9" login servers...

I am also having this problem and wanted to add a few things that might be pertinent. At first I thought it was because I was running Win 7 (64 bit) and it was due to running a new machine but tried on my Vista machine with the same results. At first none of my SOE games would run from Station Launcher or from the old .exe's but now Vanguard will run from the old .exe so that may be a sign for hope. But hey honestly EQ2 is the place I want to be today and heck most every day. Cut the support folks some slack though if you can. I carry a pager as part of my IT job and know what it is like to get paged and brought in on the weekend and it takes a bit even if you can remote it to get a server back up and going and if you have to drive in and physically restart the box that can easily end up taking an hour or too if any issues come up or a rebuild from back up is needed. The fact that they may not have full time weekend folks really demonstrates how stable things are on a long term basis but of course not much fun right now.

Give the techs some slack...

Would love to, but its hard when you know somebody had to have been paged, maybe tried to fix the problem remotely and failed, then decided to drive 20 minutes into the office to go restart a server that may take an hour to restart - all the while not taking the 2 minutes needed to log into the forums and put up a notice that they are having problems with the login servers and they are working on the issue.

Courtesy - what a concept.

-Patchwork

Half of me is relieved that I'm not the only one having this problem, I had thought it was my computer so I restarted, disconected and reconnected my wireless, ran a couple scans and cleaned out my cookies and stuff, then I went and found out my Step-Dad wasn't able to get on so I checked the forums here, and well I found this. The one thing I know though is that SOE will do their best to get the servers up, it's the reason I love to play EQ2, and the other SoE games because of their prompt customer service, and awesome devs that keep this game running smoothly.
At my company we have HP maintaining and monitoring our servers. It is my experiance that the monitoring software rarely works. They almost never know when there is a problem on one of our farms. We almost always know there is a problem and where it is because we have built monitoring into our apps. When they stop checking in a service sends and email alert and a text alert. There is another service that does nothing but check the service watcher.

But the SMS rarely works. EDS cannot explain why it fails all the time.
