Occasionally, when I use either the left or right mouse button to look around my character/rotate the camera, the camera will abruptly spin to look straight up at the sky. It's rather disorienting. Never had this issue with other games I played, meaning the camera doesn't swing up suddenly.

Greetings,

The most common cause for this issue would be a corrupt/missing DirectX9.0c file. You may want to try reinstalling those files using the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...;displaylang=en

Also, are you using any kind of infrared device on that computer like a remote control. Something like that could also cause the problem you're describing.

Thank you very much for your help!

And no, I am not using any kind of infrared device.

Seems like I spoke too soon. The mouse panning towards the sky issue is back again. Even after installing that file you linked.

Try checking the "Reuse Vertexes" box in Display Options. Assuming you're using an nVidia gfx card, this should alleviate (but sadly, not totally eliminate) the problem.

I shall try that tomorrow, when the servers are back up. What is the root of this problem? Thanks for your suggestion!

I am also getting this problem on a brand new Windows 7 HP 64-bit SP1 install. All Windows Updates installed. Using ATI Radeon 5770 with 10.4 drivers.

Thought I would be clever running along the walls in Paineel... was going to Fae jump from the wall to the portal, and things got a bit messy... didn't even land near The Hole!

But yes, it happens at the worst times it seems. And yes it always seems to make the view spin around and go up - never down! At first I thought it was my mouse, then my mousepad, but now I think it could be something different.

Got this problem today and it is getting annoying. Some facts.

* My character was in TD when I logged off. I got an error, saying that EQII had crashed. Tried to logon a few hours later and the game hangs on "Updating Environment Map". I could logon on other characters. Never had this problem before. After a reboot I could logon again on the character in TD.

Not sure if above is/was the reason why my mouse was acting weird.

Tested the mouse behaviour.* If you click random on any location around your character, like in 20% of the cases your mouse will go to the center of your screen, or else said on your character.* In some cases, because you move your mouse a bit, your camera will rotate in the direction of the mouse.* Setting "Mouse Speed" is affected by it, else said, the faster the speed, the faster your camera rotates.* Did a lot of things trying to solve it, nothing helped though.> Check/uncheck "Reuse Vectrex"or something similar > Anything in the mouse config> Deleted all the files which were updated today> Updated directx drivers> ... some more configuration in the game which I don't remember

I am running EQII on win7 x64.

To emphasis, there is nothing wrong with my mouse ! It is a game issue.

Hope this will be solved, because it is not fun playing like this. And I also don't like the solve a problem, to even play a game.

Anyone ever find any way to solve this issue? I reactivated my account yesterday and attempted to play it. This camera issue was happening very frequently (about 1 in 8 attempts at mouselook-ing). Obviously this led to it being frustrating enough that I just can't be bothered to play.Have tried the suggestions in this thread starting with the DX9c update but nothing has changed it, or the frequency at which it happens.I don't have this problem with any other games that use similar 'mousedown to engage mouselook mode' control methods.Easiest way I've found to quickly test is to mousedown with the mouselook button (right for me) and just move the cursor a couple of pixels in any direction. When it breaks, the camera spins to face another direction very fast, obviously far too fast to be caused by the 1 or 2 pixels I moved it. I also notice the cursor seems to sometimes randomly reset to the center of the screen too, usually coinciding with the spinning camera whereas when mouselook functions normally, the mouse cursor will remain at the location I pressed the button down when I disengage mouselook.Could it be that what's happening is I'm engaging mouselook at a certain location on screen, say.. upper right portion of the screen, for some reason it's resetting my mouse cursor to the center and during which time the client thinks I did that intentionally and adjusts my camera aim to coincide with where it would have been if I'd manually moved it from where I mousedown (upper right) to the center of the screen, thus causing it to think I've mouse-looked from the upper right to the center, without actually doing so?Hope that made at least some sense, just trying to throw some ideas out in the hopes of a fix =)SpecsCore2Duo (forget which model, e8300 I think)Win7 64 - Seems to be the common factor?ATI 4890Logitech G9x mouse (with setpoint installed)

It's a known issue with the G9 series. There is a lot of discussion about it over on their boards. They at one point claimed that going from a 9 to a 9x would solve the problem, but it doesn't. I tried it. The 9x isn't as bad but it still happens. Using a very flat colored mousemat helps a lot.

This sounds to me like the age old problem that was found when W7 was released, a temporary workaround was posted on here and nothing else was done about it. If you use W7 and login through the station launcher then the voice software causes this to happen. To counter this I use the everquest execute file to run the game and only use the launcher to update when needed. Everytime I update I then log back out of launcher and close it before using execute to run the game.

This problem is greatly annoying and I was surprised at the time that it wasn't looked at further. I got the impression that because there was a work around, it wasn't worth fixing. I just do the above as the norm now and no more crazy mouse antics. Hope this helps.

Editted to add original link.

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=461452

Not being funny but it was the same SoE employee that was informed of this "fix" in the first thread. Not only was it then left but also forgotten about? Do you not keep logs of faults and the subsequent fixes which may help for future occurences such as this?
