So i just built my own new computer for the very first time and everything works beautifully, except that I cannot play everquest 2. I had a lot of trouble installing the game but I managed to figure that out on my own. Now whenever I get into the game my entire system shuts down within a couple minutes of playing, if I'm lucky to be on for that long. I would say that this happens with any graphics intense game but I installed the trial version of WoW(I'm sorry it is just to test my computer) and that works fine. Any idea why this is happening?

If the machine automaticly restarts right click on my computer, properties, advanced, system recovery settings and remove the click box from the automaticly restart. If th crash code is 0X0C000005 it is probably a corrupt driver install for sound or video

New build - did you download and install the DXWEBSETUP.exe from MS for DX9.0C optional modules and install it on the machine? It will not harm the install of DX10 or DX11 it will only load the required optional modules

What problems did you have installing the game?

Would not compare the grpahics load of EQ2 to WOW, WOW can probably be run on a Iphone or a old Altair 8088 give the complexity of their graphics.

haha yeah and i hate WoW, just thught I would see if it was all games or just EQ2. I don't even like having it installed on my computer. No blue screen or anything, just total shut down and I have to push the power button to start up again. I haven't installed directx9 so I'll give that a shot.

when I was installing the game I got what seems to be a pretty common error message, "cannot communicate directly with plugin. but that was when I was trying with the old launcher directly from the eq2 website. I installed the new launcher and that one seems to work fine

well I downloaded directx9 and it still crashes. I would think I had a faulty stick of ram if it wasn't for the fact that WoW works. any other ideas?

Lean towards a overheat

I've felt around in the computer to try and get a feel of what might be overheating and it all seems to be pretty cool. I've got a coolermaster case and an extra fan and I don't overclock or anything, not to mention I can run the computer for hours as long as I don't try to play EQ2, even EQ1 works.

It also shuts down when I do stress testing. I've tried memtest86+ and prime95 and it crashes during both. I'm really hoping it is just an unreliable psu because as long as it arrives on time I should be getting a corsair psu tomorrow. i got a kingwin trying to save money but I'm not regretting it

I can check some temps through the bios. But how could it be overheating only when I play eq2? I can run it for hours otherwise
