OK, I didn't get much response over on the non-game board, so I thought I would try here. I'm looking to buy a laptop whose only purpose in my life is to run EQ2. Budget is around $1,500

I would like resolution to be 1920 x 1080, but I can be talked out of this if there is a good reason to go lower. I would like a minimum screen size of 15"+. HDMI output would be ideal too - for using my TV as a monitor. Other than that, I could really use help from some of you experts and testers out there on what kind of cpu/gpu/disk drive, etc. is going to run EQ2 at the best possible quality for the budget I have.

I have heard that the engine does not use multiple cores well, so you should max. the processor speed...but I know basically nothing about chip architecture, so my simple understanding is probably not doing me any good in choosing. It seems like most of the higher end laptops feature i7 @ 1.6 Ghz - but I was thinking the Core2 Duo at 2.5-2.8 Ghz would be better. Is this basically true? The Newegg reviews that rave about machines running WoW, Crysis, Modern Warfare and Dragon Age do me no good...they are not EQ2!

What is with SSD and would it be worth it to try to get a laptop with one? Will it take the machine out of my budget?

How important is the Graphics card? Do I need a card with 1 Gig - like GeForce 240M or better?

I am considering an Asus G-Series (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220639) or an Alienware M15 with some CPU upgrades. One problem with the Alienware is that if you go with the highest clocked i7 within my budget (620M), it is only compatible with the 512 Meg Geforce card.

Can you tell I need some help? Need to hurry too, before my wife comes to her senses and changes her mind about us blowing this kind of cash on an EQ machine.

Thanks in advance!

I bought 2 of that exact Asus laptop recently. One for my wife, and one for my daughter who playes EQ2. It gives outstanding EQ2 performance. The laptop is fantastic and I recommend it without reservation. The game is playable on Extreme performance, but we run it on high quality with gpu shadows.
