Hi all. Figure I'll give a bit of background on me prior to my question(s). My first MMO was Dark Age of Camelot, I loved it. Played it from day 1 to shortly after ToA. Then I went to EQ, lasted about 6 months before pc issues canceled my MMO gaming. I fought the urge to get WoW til about 2 months after BC came out. Played it, got 2-3 toons to 70 but didn't have time to raid because of work. So I quit 6 months before LK came out. Went back in Feb of '09. Leveled a bunch of toons to 80, really enjoyed the Shaman(with all its problems) and started raiding with him. I loved it, didn't really pay attention to meters of any kind but I must of done good because after awhile I was leading a small group of friends in raiding. Problem was, we were 6 or so and had to fill with PUG members. It was hard to find competant people but we still prevailed(basically because we had 2 tanks 2 healers in the core group). Once we conquered the 10 mans, we were pretty much left in the cold for 25s. And we ended up getting burned out. We stopped playing before the ICC patch. I was jonesing bad for my MMO fix and saw the collection for $20 and 2 free months. That's such an awesome deal I couldn't pass it up. So here I am. Ugh, sorry for the wall of text, anyways on to my questions...

1) Since my fav wow class was the shaman I was wondering if there was a similar class in EQ2. Healing, range or melee dps options. Shapeshifting. Dual welding.

2) I plan on taking my time to 80 but its never too early to find out about the raiding. How is the raiding? Is it EQ style(I heard it was like a job) or more casual friendly?

3) I read that AB was the most populated PvE server, I'd like to find one in the middle, any suggestions?

That's about all I have for now. Some awesome replies on other threads that gave me a head start.

1) sounds to me like you might like a Inquisitor, think a Warden from DAoC hib side but a more compitent of a healer than wardens were there. A Warden in this game might work for you as well, reasonable dps, medium range healer, animal forms, ect. 2) raiding is what you make of it. You can ether do casual raiding ether through a more casual raiding guild, PuGs, or even what would be best described as a non guilded raid group(people who raid together every week but arnt in the same guild), or it can be almost like a job through a hard core guild. 3) I think that you might find the Everfrost server to be to your liking, the general mentality of the server is a bit more casual and kept in prespective that this is a game and nothing to get to stressed over. Those on Everfrost will make a gruop to go where ever, laughing and having fun the whole time and if we wipe generally we just laugh it off and go back and do it right. I have found that some servers the general mentality of it was just to serious for my liking, this is a game after all. It does have its super hard core people and it does have its super casual but generally I think the server is a nice middle ground. If you do decide to go to the Everfrost server, I would like to sudjest checking out the guild , They are a very mature, helpfull, casual guild that focuses on helping new players, entry level raiding, ect.

1) Since my fav wow class was the shaman I was wondering if there was a similar class in EQ2. Healing, range or melee dps options. Shapeshifting. Dual welding.

Mystic's(Good Class), and Inquisitor's(Evil Class) both are able to turn there ranged spells into combat arts (Melee attacks)

2) I plan on taking my time to 80 but its never too early to find out about the raiding. How is the raiding? Is it EQ style(I heard it was like a job) or more casual friendly?

Raiding in Eq2 is much nicer then it was in Eq1/WoW. While people still fight over loot and how to kill a NPC. The healing, and fighting is much simpler making things not as mad with the keybored.

3) I read that AB was the most populated PvE server, I'd like to find one in the middle, any suggestions?

While I cant say about other servers I myself enjoy The Bazaar for the simple fact as a solo/casual player I am able to buy raid "NoTrade" items, characters and platinum with out needing to risk a gold seller site (Sony lets players sell money/characters/items on there site)

Apparently I had tried the free trial for EQ2 some time ago. As when I /claim, I have a butt ton of stuff, says my account is 360 days old. That's pretty awesome. I went with kitty Warden on Everfrost, named Ojaosk. Tried the Inquisitor on a different server, was the dino guy and started in TD. Didn't care for it so I started my kitty in the one on the far left that I can't remember the name of. Having fun with him so far. Looking like my exp in WoW is making the transition to EQ2 somewhat easier. Although learning new shorthand is a pain.

Came up with some more questions after playing this weekend. Got up to 20 Warden, 21 Sage. Guess I'll just run through the questions...

1. For a warden, 1H and shield or 2H?

2. If I heal someone not in my group, do I steal exp?

3. Can someone explain Mentoring?

4. While trying to put books on my shelf, I can't seem to figure out how to move it in/out so that it goes on the blasted shelf.

5. I noticed a Vitality bonus, how does one get that exactly?

6. Since I'm a Sage, is there a point in keeping my gathering skills that don't get me ingredients up?

7. When I hit 20 my lil bear turned into a mount, is there a way to mount/unmount or is it an automatic thing?

8. I've noticed AAs that add to diety pets. When does the option of picking a diety come available?

9. AAs. I've got 11 so far. I was doing 75% AA once I hit 10 but after getting 6 and only being level 12, I stopped doing any AA exp til 20. I'm just not sure what to put them in. Combat consists of Dawnstirke, Icefall, Auto Attack, Dawnstrike whenever its up, heals if needed.

Sorry for all the questions. Some stuff is still going over my head.

Guess I'll just run through the questions...

1. For a warden, 1H and shield or 2H?

It will depend on your Alternate Advancement (AA) choices to be honestly. Wardens have the ability to turn their damage spells into melee combat arts via AA on the Warden's tab of the window. Once you've gone through that tree and reached the endline ability Force of Nature I'd go with a big 2-handed weapon with a large damage spread to maximize your potential. I never noticed any impact to survivability not having a shield. Solo mobs just aren't hard enough, and in groups you shouldn't be getting hit.

2. If I heal someone not in my group, do I steal exp?

No, but the person has to have their option to lock encounters turned off. If you see a lock icon next to their name you can do nothing to affect the fight

3. Can someone explain Mentoring?

Mentoring is when someone of a higher level lowers their level to the same level as the lower level player they want to group with. You rightclick on the player or theor name in the group window and select mentor. When they mentor the stats on their items and abilities scale down, but they still have access to scaled down versions of higher level spells they have learned. If you think of a level 20 player as a non modified mob (no ^ or v arrows) a mentored level 80 would be a ^^^ level 20

4. While trying to put books on my shelf, I can't seem to figure out how to move it in/out so that it goes on the blasted shelf.

That just takes practice. I'm 6 years in and still have trouble sometimes. Also, oddly enough not all "bookshelves" are actually designed to hold books. It's easier for me if I have my view scrolled out in 3rd person.

5. I noticed a Vitality bonus, how does one get that exactly?

Vitality was a way for players with not as much playtime as others to have a chance to keep up. It gives you bonus experience for killing things and crafting things. You don't have to do anything to replenish it. It will regenerate at .5% an hour regardless of what activity you are engaged in, regardless of logged in or not. The only way to modify this is with certain veteran rewards (the /claim items) or items bought at the station marketplace. You use vitality by killing things on the adventure side, and by creating things on the crafting side. Each has a seperate vitality pool. Experience gained by completing quests or crafting writs does not use up vitality. Periodically Sony has bonus experience weekends, and you'll have noticed experience potions in the claim section. Using any of these makes you drain your vitality at the same rate, so you get more experience per kill.combine, but use more vitality at the same time.

6. Since I'm a Sage, is there a point in keeping my gathering skills that don't get me ingredients up?

It's a good idea to keep them all up, you never know when a quest will require you to do some. And any rare harvests that you won't use can be sold for good coin on the Broker

7. When I hit 20 my lil bear turned into a mount, is there a way to mount/unmount or is it an automatic thing?

Sadly there is no mounting animation. When you summon the bear it just pops up under you.

8. I've noticed AAs that add to diety pets. When does the option of picking a diety come available?

I'm pretty sure it's Level 25 you can choose a Diety. FOr almost all of them the pet comes from the third quest in the series, available at level 50

Check the Warden forum in the Priests section of these boards for some specific ideas on AA builds starting out.

Sorry for all the questions. Some stuff is still going over my head.

Just a quick note about dieties -

You can choose your diety at any level. All you need to do is click on an altar of that god and pledge to them. The quests, however, don't start until level 20. The pet is usually the reward from the last quest, which is at level 70.

In my opinion, the AAs affecting the diety pet are worthless, but your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the clearing up on when you can choose a diety and the level of the opening quest. But the pet for at least all of the original crew of dieties comes with the third quest. I know because on my Swashbuckler it was a rude awakening when the pattern was broken with Bristlebane and he didn't get the cowasaurus until the final quest. prior to that Brell, Tunare, Sol Ro and Cazic all gave it from the level 50 quest

I always thought the diety pet AA was worthless also, but with all the changes with the new expansion and the removal of hard caps it may not be as terrible as it was
