I played when the game 1st came out, and like most went to WoW. And not like Most I am bored with WoW and going to take a stab at EQ2. I HATE Questing with a passion and dont like waiting for ever for a group, so looking for a class that can solo well, and when I need cash can also farm well....

I have it down to Wiz? Necro or SK? ANy insight? Am I overlooking another strong SOlo class? I have poked thru the forums, and The best I could do was get it down to them 3 so thanks in advance...

I always like how people who hate questing play a game called Everquest. However, yes crusaders solo extremely well, as do summoners ( conjy/necro ). Not really sure about wizards. Necro is probably the best out of all of em for solo ability, they can pull off some amazing things.

There is no best soloing class. There are several classes that solo very well at different levels of gear. SK are a strong soloer but there are thing other classes can kill that an SK cannot. Likewise an SK can kill some thing other classes cannot. the game has many different kinds of encounters and many of the can be soloed by an experienced player and several can be bullied over by a decent player in exceptional gear.

In any decent game there is not single best class, it's a matter of finding a class you like that can achieve the goals you have in mind. I can solo some pretty scary stuff but I can point to many things I cannot solo as well that i have seen other classes do. Also if you don't plan to group then you might want to play a mage type as they are less gear dependant to solo well and you simply will not get top end gear soloing.

For me solo means the ability to kill without the help of others.

The quality of gear, weapon(s), aa selection, and skill will enhance any class in eqII. All things being equal I would say coerecer, illusionist, necro, conjy, wizard, warlock, sk, melee inquisitor, melee mystic, melee warden, paladin, bruiser, monk, brigand, & swashbuckler would be the order of best to least.

I have an sk and bruiser and I will say that on mobs that my bruiser struggled with or could not kill that my sk could do.

a well equipped sk is the strongest soloer for fast killing masses of semi easy mobs. if you want to kill strong single mobs (+++ heroic nameds, instance nameds) necro is your best bet

Playing EQ2 without questing is going to be painful. AA is awarded on quests, MOB xp is pretty low and with you needing to direct half of it to AA the trip to 80 is going to drag and your gear will either be crap or crafted. Its doable but ouch EQ2 is not made to grind MOBs to level.

That said SK is an excellent solo class. I find I can solo heroics pretty consistently if prepared.

I personally think SK is the best solo class, I have soloed things that I have never seen soloed by another class before. I took out the seriph of the stags in EF at 52 which is a epic 47 ^^^ x2. I have soloed orange con ^^^ names, orange con 61 ^^ with 4 adds in ss at 54. I havent ever seen another class come close to most of this.

I have a lvl 80 Shadownight, Necromancer, Illusionist, Warden and Inquisitor and no life.

The Necro is hands down the best soloer but you have to have patience to kill some of the harder mobs. There are however, mobs that my Illy can solo that my Necro can't. Some say that the SK is the king of soloing massive number of green to grey con mobs. When I was leveling my Necro in Tenebrus Tangle though, there is a area that has kind of a tree house type thing. There are four groups of two mobs at the bottom, 4 groups of two mobs at the top, a heroic mob that wanders from top to bottom and a named quest mob at the top. I would go get the repeatable quest for the named quest mob and pull the entire tree in one pull when they were all equal level to me and win the fight without reaking a sweat. I tried that with my Shadownight and he died with a quickness. My Necro is the only one of my charactors that could survive that pull when the mobs con'd even to him.

Shadownights ARE excellent soloers but they have to have a little better gear to do it. You won't be a soloing god with mastercrafted gear on. You'll have no problem (on my server at least) finding a group as a tank but Necro's are the kings of solo play. Necro's however, can't pay people to group with them...

If all you want is to be an amazing soloer, at level 80 with Tier 1 shard gear and decent jewelry my Necro's tank pet has just over 15,000 health. If I use him in a group (not sure why I'd ever do that but just saying) he can be buffed to over 20k health. His mitigation is a little lower then the average real tank but his health is right on par with them. With tainted heals I have 7 spells that can heal my tank pet for between 4500 and 5000 health each and because the Necro relies mainly on DoT's for damage i can keep my DPS up while I'm healing my pet. The "Holy trinity" of grouping is a tank, a healer and a DPS. The Necromancer is all three all by himself.

Although you can solo to 80... at some point you are going to want to group with people and act out the role you have chosen. Which in the case of SK is tanking.

A far better question is do you want to tank?
