Hi everyone,

About a year and a half ago I started playing Everquest 2 with a Geforce 8800 GTS and I encounterd lots of stuttering that I stopped playing with-in weeks of installation. I remember reading a good number of post of others having the same problem. I'm currently thinking about returning when the new expansion comes out and I'm very curious if the 8800 cards are still having stuttering problems. Also, I couldn't find this information, does the shader 3.0 improve the performance of the 8800 and would windows 7 help? Just curious.

Thanks.

Hmmm! I'd be interested in reading a response to this as well because I have this card. I recently returned and I've been experiencing something that could maybe be considered stuttering. I'd chalked it up to my having some kind of lag effect.

That issue was resolved by adding a 'Reuse vertex buffers' checkbox in the game options. It should be located in the Options > Graphics > Performance section. Checking that box should correct the stuttering that can occur with the 8000 series cards.

Regarding Shader Model 3.0, I'm fairly sure that it will not increase performance since it is designed as an improvement for graphics quality. Let us know if you have any further questions.

Oooh, I'll try that. I was looking at options and remember seeing that. I think that's the one I had passed on because it said it would make ui controls more sluggish. But that might be the lesser of two evils... Thanks for your response to Moonblade12's questions, DanielH.

Let me know how that goes msgnomer. I'd really appreciate it. And thanks a bunch DanielH.

Enabling "reuse vertex buffers" didn't change the jerkiness that I experience when moving. Perhaps what I experience isn't the stuttering problem, even though it seems to fit that description. BTW, that wasn't the control that said anything about controls less responsive, that was "triple buffer". This one just says it makes resource allocation less dynamic.

What settings do you play the game on? And does lowering the settings remove the "jerkiness"? Also, how bad is the "jerkiness" ( is it toleratable) ? I want to get back into the game but I want it to look decent and run smooth.

I have it set pretty high on all graphics settings, which is why in first post I said I'd always thought it might be lag. It occurs when my character is moving, usually fast, yet it rarely is enough to really bother me too much.

I wouldn't let it keep me from the game if I wanted to play it - at least to test it out since you already have the game it sounds like.

If I get around to fiddling some more with settings, I'll post here how much difference it makes. It might not be for a bit though. But again, the effect that I see is nothing extreme. I hadn't even thought it might be anything other than lag until you posted about my card.
