I just returned to the game a couple of weeks ago after a 4 year absence and for the first week or so everything was going great. The last couple of days though my characters settings change every single time I log into the game. Custom chart tabs and channels joined changes, my hotbars change in number of bars and location of icons, the threat meter is there and then not there or is in a different part of the screen. I've reset everything to default locations and remade the whole UI about ten times already but to no avail. And it doesn't do the same thing every time, as the chat might be right but the hotbars not, or the next time they will both be wrong, and then ten times down the road the layout I did the second time with mysteriously come back just the way I had set it.

Is there a way I can make the UI get rid of all of its old layouts and make the one I want be the default layout even for new characters. I have gone so far as deleting all my alts and going into the games folders and deleting all files that had any and all characters names on them and still the same thing is happening.

Greetings,

You can completely clear out the UI by deleting the following files out of the game folder:

cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.iniAs well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.ini

Also, you can use the /load_uisettings command to select a specific UI to load. If it switches to a new/old ui then you should be able to load the other ones by using that command.

Thanks for the response. I've tried the /load_uisettings <character name> and it would flash and then be on the same UI as before the command. I had 3 characters at the time with different UI layouts and it loaded the same UI no matter what name I put after the command. Yet the next time I logged in the UI would be different and the command had the same results. I deleted the 2 old characters and left only the one that I just started when I came back and all the files I could find with their names attached and the /load_uisettings still would not restore the ui to the way I had it when I logged out last. I will try the other files you listed though this time.

Definitely try deleting those files and let us know if that corrects it after a repatch.

I deleted the files and tried again and still the same problem. I was using the station launcher program and i un-installed that program and just clicked on the .exe file and it worked correctly every time no matter how many times I entered/exited the game. So it was something with the station launcher doing it. I also noticed before I uninstalled the station launcher application that if I ran the app in user mode it game me different results than if I ran it in admin mode which would load the default game settings every time.

Now i have a new problem. Since i used station launcher to download the entire game there is no patcher in the regular game directory now only everquest2 and settings .exe files and I can't log in today as i can't patch. The streaming patcher will not install to the same directory "due to my computer settings". How can I get the normal patcher files back now. I do not want to stream the whole game again when I have all the files already, but I even copied all the files from my full install to the streaming directory and it did not like that at all.

I'm having exactly the same problem and I have also recently returned to the game. I'm now running windows 7 which I wasn't when I last played and I wonder if write permissions have something to do with it. However, it's very inconsistent. When I first started playing everything was fine. It's only recently that the UI resets have started and the first time it happened it resolved itself somehow - though I don't remember exactly what I happened I think I logged out and in again and my settings were back. I've also tried /load_uisettings and only the character I'm playing appears in the list and when I select it nothing changes.
