Well, I've made my Illusionist! But I do have a few more questions. The first is easy (I hope) when I hit level 10 where should I put the AA slider? 80/20 or 50/50 to make sure I gain the AA's needed while leveling.Second, Tradskills.....I was thinking Sage (seems the most viable choice) but with the Research Assistant is it worth leveling? I figured keeping my spells at the highest possible quality would really make a big difference.Again, thanks so much for answering all the questions I've had. You guys have been great!

I cant say for an illy in particular but any caster i have never regretted going sage (or at least having one) on the server. Expert level spells are so nice to have, especially if you lock.

As for AA slider. To each his own. I like to do a 100% lock till i cant complete quests anymore. This is usually at 12/16/22 etc. I try to aim for 50-70AA by 20. Makes things so much easier.

Okay, lets add to this a little bit.

Should I mez/stun then root? Let me and my pet nuke until root breaks, ect rinse and repeat?

Also, any stratigies for multi mobs? Many add's or the occasional pull where you bring a second mob accidently, lol.

There are macros you can use for illusionist pets. "/pet ranged" and "/pet melee". For my illusionist, I usually set my pet at "/pet ranged" and start off with a root. Your pet will root frequently so you can have most mobs (even triple up heroics) rooted throughout the fight. For multiple mobs I begin with an AoE mez and then, for easier mobs, I take one and let my pet take another. For harder encounters, keep AoE mezzing (single target mezzing each add if AoE is down) and you and your pet root and nuke, as described above.

Understand that the illy, and enchanters, in general, are very flexible in how they approach a fight. @lvl 10 you don't have much to work with, so the simpler, root-nuke approach, from ranged is good. But, as you get older, you'll find that you'll definitely start to 'think on your feet' more. Pet pulls, pet 'tanking', you pulling, you tanking, etc., etc.. Just think about how you want to approach the fight, after all, you do have CHOICES, root, stun, daze, mez I really enjoy the enchanter class, because of the versatility. And I like being in CONTROL

If I were to lock exp to get AA's, I would only do it until perp and 5/5 beam. At that point you'll get to enjoy chaining spells like crazy (and it gives you a chance to see how you like it, because many people don't).

Even with the research assistant, sage is still incredibly useful. You really don't want to use the RA to upgrade a journeyman spell, that's just a waste. Use it to upgrade experts (which are the rare sage crafted ones) to masters.

I normally just do root and then my spell chain. For solo pve, the spell order isn't all that important (in any kind of group setting though, prioritize your best spells, like prismatic on cooldown). The key thing to keep in mind about your spell chain is to put beam between everything. For example: Root, Beam, Nightmare, Beam, Brainburst, Beam, etc. If root breaks I just stun or aneurysm and finish it, the mob will be dead before either of those effects wear off anyone (assuming non-heroic of course).

If you want to solo heroics/nameds/etc, there's 2 ways to do it. Either the very safe approach of stunning, nuking and keeping disables up as you can (single target stun, encounter stun, aneurysm + speechless), and once you're about to run out, mez, wait out cooldowns, and start over. This can be pretty boring, but it's a very safe way to kill things and it works fine in close quarters where you can't get distance. This works much better at higher levels when you can keep a mob disabled for ~20 seconds, the low level disables don't last terrible long.

The other way, is to root and go all out using dots, standing at max range. Watch your maintained effects and refresh root when it breaks (the mob might not move when it breaks because the pet keeps root up too). If the mob does start moving, either kite and mez (you can mez on the move) or quick stun (encounter stun) and then mez. Get distance again, root and start over. For this I recommend making a macro that cancels all your dots and then mezzes. You make that by using the command /cancel_maintained spellname (so /cancel_mainted Brainburst VII, for example). Put a line like that in for each dot (4 counting the aoe ones) and then use ability mez. That way if you mez you'll cancel your dots (I'd only use that macro for soloing nameds tho, otherwise during normal gameplay when you mez adds you'll cancel your dots).
