Hi all. Just coming back from an extended break playing eq2. Been playing a bunch of single player games I bought then never played until the past year or so. Was fun but I am ready to begin anew. The problem is I am having a really difficult time choosing a main character.

I have a 40 something Inq, 40 something Warden, 50 something Bruiser, 20 something mystic and a 20 something Dirge. I am wanting to create a new character though and stick with it. I will give you some info on my playstyle.

- I am an explorer and quester. I love EQ2's world. And I love seeing as much content leveling up as possible.

- I solo a lot

- In EQ then WoW I always ended up raiding pretty hardcore and would like to do the same.... once I get there. I am in no rush at all though.

- I hate fighting on horseback but love to run fast. I enjoy the various mounts in eq2 a lot but dont like fighting on them. I wish there was a hidemount command.

- I have no preference when it comes to evil or good

- I have zero desire to tank. The reason being I am just way to behind the curve and would not feel confident leading groups into dungeons that they have done a million times as there is a lot of content I have yet to see.

Well thats pretty much it. Any help at all is most welcome. And thanks in advance.

Given the fact that 3 of the classes you have listed are healers, I would probly just jump back on the Warden. If you dont like the warden for whatever reason another very viable option would be to betray to betray the Warden to a Fury. Check out the warden/fury boards on this forum and make sure that your AA spec is set up right as if it isnt it would hinder your preformance a lot. Both classes can solo well, they both have speed buffs so you dont have to worry about running around on your mount, and being a healer your just about garenteed a spot in a raid/group. IMO make yourself a tank friend and go destroy stuff =)

Hmm... Well these days, the classes that people are always screaming for are bards and enchanters. This may change in SF based on some of the proposed changes from the old mechanics dev before they left SOE, but it's presently unclear.

You haven't been able to play with passion towards a mystic, inquisitor, or dirge? Hmm... So you don't enjoy bards, aggressive plate healers, or aggression chain healers. Well that somewhat limits our options. I would have likely suggested one of those classes, so we'll have to go another way.

I'd suggest that you either roll a "needed" dps class or an enchanter. People are still asking for Coercers and Illusionists these days. (They've got a good dps rate, mana regen, and great group buffs.) Also hate transfer dps classes (assassin & swashbuckler) and quasi-utility dps classes (like brigand) are also desireable still. Though the mechanics dev had also proposed messing with the debuffing abilities of the brigand and potentially sharing them with other classes (like summoners and swashbuckler). So only time will tell who will end up on top.

To be honest, you've got two choices. You can either wait about a month to see who's coming out on top through the new AA selections or upgrades / nerfs or you can just pick a class and try to hit the level cap before the expansion comes out. (I say this since the goal is to get your Mythical weapon before the raiders start to focus on the new expansion's content.)

"Run fast" would be a bard, scout, druid, or mystic. Of course, you can also use Totem of the Wolf and Totem of the Chokidai, plus things like the Journeyman Boots, even if you do not play one of those classes.

The best explorers are probably the classes that can feign death (brawlers, shadowknights). The second best would be being able to invis (pretty much all the caster-types). If you learn tinkering, you can make your own feign death items, and Totem of the Jaguar or Totem of the Chameleon gives anyone invisibility.

The easiest classes to solo... my picks would be the Summoners (Conjuror or Necromancer) or Brawlers (Monk or Bruiser). Brawlers *will* be asked to tank in groups, so that would be a drawback for you. All the scouts solo very well. I have heard people gripe about bards, but in comparison to soloing a paladin or templar they play like gods.

If your ultimate goal is a raiding spot, then let's think about what a raid needs. A raid needs 1-2 tanks (a main tank and an offtank). On rare occasions you need additional fighters, but that's just specific fights. Then you need 6-7 healers. And you want power regen in all groups, so you have a coercer in the MT group and 3 illusionists. You want four bards, generally 3 dirges and a troubador for the mage group. For everything else you want big, hard-hitting DPS types such as wizards and assassins. But any class CAN get a raid spot, if you play your class well - it may just not be in a high-end raid guild.

Overall, I'd probably suggest a brigand or swashbuckler if you want speed in kills. These are scouts, which gives you Pathfinding for "run fast" and I think all teh scouts have some invisibility abilities. Bards (dirges or troubador) also will have the Pathfinding and invis, but don't do quite as much damage -- but dirges are usually highly desired in raids.

I personally love my mystic, and you can spec for "battle priest" with inquisitors, mystics, and wardens, which makes them easier to solo, and mystics have Spirit of the Wolf for a bit of "run fast".

My conjuror was probably the easiest character I leveled to 80. The pet is like having your own group. Unfortunately, unless summoners get some love in the new expansion, they can't usually do the big damage that a wizard ro warlock or illusionist can pump out, which decreases their usefulness in raids.

Right now I am leveling an illusionist, because everyone wants them in raids. It's not quite as easy to level as the conjy was, but she does TONS more damage. I think once I get the hang of the crowd control tools I'll solo better with her. She is on a dire bear mount at the moment because I can't afford a horse, but I am about to runher through the Journeyman Boots HQ and get her some Totem of the Wolf and let her jog instead.

Well, of course I'm biased, but I'd say go with your bruiser. I managed to mostly solo (with the occasional duo) my way through 60-65, before I started grouping with people. I always feel confident that there's very few places I can't go (raid zones give me pause, I have to admit), and stuff that I can't explore on my bruiser. Give me invis and run speed totems and I'm off.

We may not be able to heal as much or as often as a warden, but bruisers can take a beating, I'll tell you. I love my bruiser, she is the mmo-apple of my eye, and always will be.

Mystic and inquisitor have great survivability for questing. Mystic have runspeed however both classes are kinda slow killers but can go toe to toe on hard encounters.

You might try dirge or perhaps a troubador. I would recommend dirge. He can use bow and has a stifle shot, has snare and magic shouts. The bard classes has nice runspeed aswell. They have many buffs to help groups and yourself. Only downside to all those buffs is when you die.

If you dont like a kiting class, try one of the tanker like a paladin or berserker.

I'm not certain of this, but the fastest runner is probably a ranger. I believe they can max out at over 70%.

They also do masses of damage, but that's with a bow, so you'll be running around a lot trying to keep stuff at range.

Otherwise, just try everything. I don't know how many times I've met people who started on one class and ended up falling in love with something entirely different (like, the swash that turned into an inquisitor). I don't think you're going to be able to determine what you'll like best until you try it.

Go with the biggies. You don't like to tank. Avoid all the fighter classes. You might want a brawler just for soloing fun, but they are tanks and will be expected to tank. Not to mention that, at least for now, they aren't very popular with raiding guilds.

You do like soloing and questing. That needs survivability, mostly. The hardest classes to solo are the extreme low dps priests (defiler and templar) and the massive big bang boom dps (assassins, wizards, warlocks). They can solo, but it takes love and dedication. As a low dps priest, expect it to take forever, and pray you don't end up against another priest. As a big bang boom type, expect to kill fast and die a lot.

Play around with them all. Don't ignore a class because you don't think you'll like it. Try it and see.

Happy hunting!
