View Full Version : Win 7 issue: Game Manager

There is an issue in the Windows 7 Game Manager with EQ that did not exist in Vista. Namely, in Vista once you installed the game, you'd get an entry in the Game Manager with the game's info, settings etc (the game would be listed as EverQuest II Desert of Flames, but still)...

In Windows 7 however, this is not working properly. We get an EQ2 icon -- sometimes just the icon with no name, sometimes the icon with "EverQuest II Desert of Flames" under it -- which cannot be interacted with in any way. Now, that'd not be much of an issue. The main issue however is that we get multiple copies of the icon each time the game is started.

I currently have 9 EQ2 icons in my Game Manager and I just freshly installed Win 7 on Saturday. A friend has 321 icons.

Not only is it visually annoying, but it's a registry hog to keep so many entries going in every time we run the game.

Could you please look into it so, at least with the expansion we can do a fresh install and get this sorted?

I'm including some screenshots of the Game Manager and my RegEdit window:

1) Game Manager window. 9 icons for EQ2, some with no name, some with the title "EverQuest II: Desert of Flames". A new icon is created each time EQ2 is launched from the shortcut, though not if launched through the Station Launcher.

http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/...gamemanager.jpg

2) RegEdit: two screenshots showing the 2 different types of entries (the shorter, for the un-titled icons, and the longer one for the icons titled EverQuest II: Desert of Flames). As you can see again there are 9 entries here. My friend had 321, and that's only since the beginning of December.

http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/...on/regedit1.jpghttp://i621.photobucket.com/albums/...on/regedit2.jpg

Thanks,

Interesting problem.

I have our team looking into it. On first glance, this appears to be a problem with our (really) old launcher, not the new one.

We actually have been working on a proper integration with the Games Explorer (for Vista and Windows 7) within the new launcher. This seems to be happening with code that was written years before Microsoft even started working on such a feature.

As soon as we have a full understanding of the issue, we can post our findings.

Thanks for finding this!!

-dan

I am glad this is being looked into, i don't like having my game panel disabled in Windows 7 (because I despise having and using desktop shortcuts, ruins the aesthetics of the desktop imo), but I really couldn't stand knowing i had 80 eq2 shortcuts in there.

There are ways to be found via google to get rid of them, but it is only clean up, not preventative - as soon as you run it again they start building back up.

So did the issue just completly take a swan dive through the cracks?
