Hi All,

Just downloaded the game for the free 14-day trial. Launcher seems to work fine. Downloads the game and I get an icon on the desktop. I press "Play" (or whatever the choice on the button is to get in-game) and a few seconds go by...I get a big black screen with an EQ2 pointer (I can move it around with the mouse) and then suddenly I'm thrown back to my desktop with only about 2/3rds of it showing. No icon down in the taskbar; I run Task Manager and it shows no applications running. It's as if the game just disappears. I click on the EQ2 icon again, do the same thing, and after the black screen I'm back to the desktop. I reboot the PC, try again, same result. I remove the game, relaunch, redownload, try again with the same results.

Any suggestions? Can't understand why it won't load. Thanks!

I have a similar problem with the 14-Day trial. except that it doesn't crash on me, it just doesn't go further than the Launcher saying "Playing" but it does not continue. I thought it might be a connection problem so I followed the Admin's instructions.

Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : nettle-554ybxml Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : Belkin Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-01-6C-64-49-D7 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.214.30 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Belkin Description . . . . . . . . . . . : 802.11g/b Wireless LAN Client Adapter - USB Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 08-10-74-1A-B3-BA Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.30 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 19 January 2010 16:10:46 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 19 January 2038 03:14:07 Tracing route to sdkeq2-01-01.everquest2.com [199.108.12.33] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 5 ms 1 ms 3 ms 192.168.2.1 2 34 ms 7 ms 36 ms 10.217.168.1 3 13 ms 11 ms 11 ms swan-cam-1a-v113.network.virginmedia.net [80.0.254.77] 4 11 ms 11 ms 20 ms swan-core-1a-ge-013-0.network.virginmedia.net [195.182.180.137] 5 14 ms 14 ms 16 ms bir-bb-a-ge-130-0.network.virginmedia.net [212.43.162.105] 6 17 ms 32 ms 23 ms man-bb-b-so-510-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.253.185.134] 7 15 ms 18 ms 16 ms man-bb-a-ae0-0.network.virginmedia.net [62.253.187.177] 8 20 ms 22 ms 20 ms 212.187.136.125 9 19 ms 24 ms 20 ms ae-4-4.ebr1.London1.Level3.net [4.69.133.102] 10 24 ms 27 ms 21 ms ae-100-100.ebr2.London1.Level3.net [4.69.141.166] 11 94 ms 102 ms * ae-44-44.ebr1.NewYork1.Level3.net [4.69.137.78] 12 95 ms 108 ms 106 ms ae-61-61.csw1.NewYork1.Level3.net [4.69.134.66] 13 103 ms 108 ms 107 ms ae-64-64.ebr4.NewYork1.Level3.net [4.69.134.113] 14 * 141 ms 140 ms ae-3.ebr2.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.69.137.121] 15 171 ms 176 ms 178 ms ae-4-4.car2.SanDiego1.Level3.net [4.69.133.213] 16 196 ms 175 ms 171 ms ge-6-2.hsa1.SanDiego1.Level3.net [4.69.142.158] 17 194 ms 175 ms 181 ms vl861.sdtermswitch-1.sonyonline.net [63.215.251.130] 18 191 ms 192 ms 172 ms vl23.sdtermbr-2.sonyonline.net [64.37.144.146] 19 177 ms 176 ms 181 ms vl832.sdkollsw-2.sonyonline.net [64.37.144.90] 20 171 ms 175 ms 196 ms sdkeq2-01-01.everquest2.com [199.108.12.33] Trace complete. My PC is well within spec, too. This may be a common problem but people aren't reporting it, just cleaning the useless trial off of their computers,

One thing that I have seen in the past, if there is an issue with someone not being able to play the game, they DO post about it... lol

OKie dokie.. On to your issue...

Have you set up the exceptions to your AV program and the firewall ports yet?

[EQ2] Firewall and Proxy Information for EverQuest II

What OS are you running on? If you have Vista or Windows 7, then you will need to do a few things to get the game going.

Updated - [TECH] Getting Station Launcher to run in Windows Vista

I'm fairly sure that these are 2 seperate issue unless they are being caused by an antivirus.

Regarding the original post, I'll probably need some additional information about the computer itself. Can provide your basic computer specifications such as your processor, graphics card, and driver versions? Your dxdiag file up through the sound devices section would be ideal.

Regarding the second post, this does look like a connection issue. You may want to check that your firewall is not blocking the game. Also, try bypassing the router so that you are plugged directly into the modem. That will tell us for sure if the router is part of the problem. That said, I've seen several people reporting weird connection issues with Virginmedia over the last week and I'm starting to wonder if they're doing something strange on their end.

Hey, I've got the same problem as the OP here except w/o the black screen, I've posted my dxdiag in this thread : http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=467878

Please help, I bought a full subsricption because even though the trial didn't work, maybe the steam one would. I was wrong, and currently short 20$ with nothing to show for it.
