I played EQ 1 from release. And then moved over to WoW and have been with that game since. In between tried many MMO's. Most recently I tried Aion and loved it but it just has no Depth and because a mind numbing bore I have left. I am looking for something new.

I played a druid in EQ and wondering how the druid's are in this game. What would be a solid class for solo leveling when I dont have alot of time for grouping. Also a friend and I will be trying to make this journey together. So he currently is going to play a Ranger and looking also for a good class to compliment that toon.

And lastly are Monks or Necro's any good?

Thanks

Druids are fine for soloing, especially a melee specced (alternate achievement point) warden. They are not the most popular group/ raid healers however - the wards/reactives of the mystic/defiler/templar/inquisitors are preferred.

As to duo-ing with a ranger - This has specific requirements as the Ranger is a pure dps class, and really needs to be able to either behind or at least at range from the target. If the ranger gets the aggro - which is likely he doesn't have much in the way of getting behind or even away from the target. Kiting is possible, but duoing with a kiting ranger would drive you nuts - you would be chasing the mob that in turn would be chasing the ranger. Therefore - you need something with the ability to draw aggro - a fighter.

If you like healing but need a fighter - go paladin - you can cast amends on the ranger and off you go.

A Monk is a pretty solid choice for duoing. They're decent tanks and can put up enough dps to make things not horrifically slow. And if you're duoing, he can always spec for altruism and then you can both FD anytime things go wrong.

While it may not seem like a plethora of options, most of the rangers rooting or stun CA's are on short timers.

Rangers have a stun to get behind and another ability that roots them in place for a few secs to enable you to get distance.

Also, rangers have in their scout aa line abilities like Point Blank Shot that knockback and root/stun a target giving you time to back up for range.

They also have a trap they can use that can root and damage groups of mobs.

Rangers played well are like doing a well choreographed dance of death.

Kiting is only possible with your ranged auto attack. However, you can effectively kite using your melee which will slow your enemy down (giving an opportunity for a quick shot from the bow).

I do agree that a fighter or even a brigand would work best with a ranger. Brigands do get a taunt, and while they are scouts as well (Chain armor) they are a bit tougher it seems.

Just thought I would add to and give my opinion as well:)

Any Duo can go to 80.

How hard or easy it will be depends a bit on your spells and armor. Master Crafted Armor, weapons and spells make it easier and safer (in my opinion, at least post 50)

So basically, play what you would like to, have your friend do the same and it'll work out as you both gain experience in your choices and play style.

If you can't group because of time constraints or just don't feel like killing, Craft.

Yeah...

Actually a brigand & ranger duo can work. Brigands get a rooting melee attack (via AA) which spins the mob and a couple of snares. They also have multiple stuns and knock downs. As if this isn't enough, they can gain good aggro with their debuffs. They even have a quasi-rescue and an interrupt taunt. (My main is a brigand and can easily solo. So adding in a ranger to help you dps burn mobs down really isn't a bad thing.)

A ranger pal and I duo'ed the Greenmist HQ final instance right after TSO came out. All together, it worked quite well. If a ranger complete unloads, then they will steal aggro. But between the various control abilities of a brigand, they can still decently lock down mobs. And it can be interesting to intentionally unload your dps to gain aggro, then use your -1 threat positions to lose aggro. If a fight gets close, you could easily ping pong aggro back and forth if you wanted to.

He would shoot, I would root then either heal or fight depending on the mob. My warden is by far my favorite to play.

Being new, it would probity be in your best interests to avoid playing a class that wont get any sort of group at level 80, well the ranger might be able to get a group but the monk and necro will be stuck soloing forever... There was someone who recommended a brigand, now there is a class which can get a group and solo reasonably well =)

Certainly Necros are on the up. Never start at level 1 based on current desires at level 80 because things can and will change fast.
