Is there no information on what they were drilling for and which group of gnomes were responsible? Seems to be a strange thing to add with no information.

It's been a while since I've done those quests, but I seem to recall the gnomes in Sol's Eye being part of the same exploration group currently stranded in the Bonemire. I believe they share the same faction and mention each other at least once in their respective quest lines.

Yes, the Dreadnever faction, run by the very same gnome who's infamous BLUNDER as Al'Kabor's assistant almost ended up ruining his ritual to gather enough energy to allow Norrathians to travel to Luclin.

The Gnomish Mining Company has always been in Solusek's Eye, but they just simply dug too deep and that's that.

No, thats not that. Who is responsible for this, the Department of Gnomeland Security / OSHA Office will be investigating this mark my words. Accidental digging too deep indeed, heads will roll, roll I tell you roll. There are special permits that must be on file in order to excavate in a live volcano. Can't just go willy nilly digging anywhere you want, accident can happen you know.

Oh it was an accident, I see, Never mind.

Ask any Gnome!

That also explains the rail, elevator and all the equipment in the mines. No idea how the Efreeti arrived, the entire company died, or why there are no signs of the kobolts that also use to inhabit the mines. Or was it goblins? Hmm...

Some goblins were introduced later with some quests on that side involving the dreadnever faction. I remember the goblins being over there, but it was just a token show kinda like the very small section of lava crawlers and other insects which use to be a lot more common in Sol A and B.

From how built up the shaft the digger went down is with the bridges and the entire platform around the shaft I'd have to say the digging device is NOT from the dreadnever expedition. The Expedition's camp looks a lot more temporary than the platform at the shaft. I'd have to say the digging device is probably one of the key factors of what lead to the Mining Company's demise and it is most likely that the mining company used the platform to launch the digger, and the bridges were built afterward by the giants and gnomes. Possibly the digging device is what drew the attention of the Efriti in the first place?
