I'm not sure what has triggered this or when exactly it started but I noticed over the weekend that my computer was really lagging out in some other games that I play. More than that, it was running generaly slow no matter what I was doing. So like usual, I opened up Task Manager to see what all was running and noticed that EverQuest2 was still listed as a running process and was using over 850k worth of memory. This was about four hours after I'd last played EQ2. I killed the task and the memory was freed up instantly.

Curious to see if this was an isolated issue, I logged in and ran around for a few minutes. After logging out, EQ2 was still taking up memory. Again I killed the task and logged back in. After a few minutes I logged out and signed out of Station Launcher. While Station Launcher was indeed closed, EQ2 was still taking up memory.

I've talked with a few guildmates who are running either Window 7 64 bit and Vista 32 bit and neither of them are able to get this to happen. I've yet to exit EQ2 and not have this happen. Like I said I'm running Vista 64 using Station Launcher 1.1.3. The only mod I have is EQ2 Maps which I've uninstalled and am still getting this issue.

Generally, I've only seen this happen when an antivirus program is intefering with the game in some way. Are you using an antivirus on that computer? If so, have you tried disabling it during play to see if the problem persists? That should tell us if it is causing problems with the game.

In the station launcher menu you can set it to close at certain times in the Preferences > Startup/Shutdown menu.

I doesn't seem to be the antivirus. I shut off avast!, booted EQ2 and stayed online for about 10 minutes. After logging out, I've still got the EverQuest2.exe*32 process running with over 490k worth of memory devoted to it.

The Station Launcher settings you mentioned relate only to Station Launcher and Windows start up unless I'm missing something.

{Back}

I reported this issue 12/14/09 in a post http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=464578

I considered that the issue may be being caused by the application wanting to write data to the disk and being denied access and therefore not getting to the end of the close process.

With this in mind I now camp to the Character select screen and then exit the game from there. The game still takes some time to close down all processes, but it takes minutes rather than hours.

I hope this helps,

BD

If possible, I'd like to hear what happens when he tries that suggestion.

Both ways left the EQ2 client as an active process. I left it in that state for over 5 hours each time and in both cases, it never closed down.

I was able to get it to hang in memory for a few minutes, but no longer. If you haven't already, please submit a /bug report so that we can try to set up a test system to reproduce the problem.

Also, let's make sure that a program in the background is interfering with the game in some way. To disable background programs:1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.If you are still experiencing the same issue, please reply back.
