So ive read through a lot of the posts on both the swash and brig threads and I have just a few clarification questions. Ill be posting this in both forums to get a collective answer.

I have heard that Swash is easier to put out high dps but brig can put out more dps (single target) it just requires a bit more tactic and skill. I have a brig right now and im all about the back attacks but sometimes, especially if you have a bad tank you cant get the positional off, is swash still this way or are their CAs a bit more forgiving. Would you classify one as burst dps or both consistent dps?

my ultimate dilema is i have an mythed dirge, a mythed bruiser and a fabled necero and a meleed warden who is 75 all on a PVP server. I am not a hardcore raider but i do raid. I am looking for a class that has a bit of pizzaz as far as utility and fun factor but i like being effective, my main being the dirge i always see how 1337 everyone is when im grouped with them. i even parsed my buddy going all out on a target dummy wiht his ranger with me in group and then again without me and i add about 50% of his dps. but on a raid when someone posts the parse you dont see that. I know its not all about the parsing. But ive also seen videos of [Removed for Content] out bruisers soloing OOA and owning in pvp. dont get me started on crusaders. I got the necro up and hes fun but i hate being so squishy and spell casting gets old after a while, although i do like the ranged dps. The new expansion coming out i know everything is going to change but I have come to the conclusion that maybe a rogue is a better fit for me, they can do lots of DPS it seems, the brig if speced a certain way looks as though they could tank some instances with the right group. AOE dps is awesome...

okay so there is my convoluted train of thought now brigands of eq2 official forums. let me have it, advice? does a brig sound like a good fit? is swash a better idea? should i stick with one of the classes i already have and wait to see what happens in expansion?

Ok, both are about debuffing - swash debuffs more the offensive of a mob, so it does less damage, brig the defensive, so the raid does more damage. Both are desirable to have in a raid - usually one swash, and one or two brigs. When not learning new content and healers are doing fine, a swash does not give a lot besides DPS. Debuffing will be nerved quite a bit with the new expansion (part of it going to summoners) - brigs will pobably suffer a bit more from that.

As for DPS I'd say they are about the same on single target fights of sufficient length given equal gear and player skill. On AE encounters Swash wins by a lot. Swash DPS is more auto attack based (and probably a bit more consistent due to that), Brigs rely more on CAs (so it gets a bit bursty due to recast timers).

As for position dependence brigs seem to have a bit more back-only CAs but also more tools to get them off solo or with a bad tank (learn the stun, jump-behind, let-em-have-it routine and use walk the plank). Brigs can tank ok if specced and geared appropriately - can't say for swashs.
