Hello there. What I am looking at doing with my Pally is to be a off tank. So, my questions would be-

1- What is the best way to spec out my pally through the AA lines to get him best set for this?

2- Also, does types of gear make a difference if I want to off tank as opposed to main tanking?

3- One more thing, if I want to off tank, will 2 handed be better for me to do rather than one handed with a shield?

And yes, I am looking at trying to make this into a raiding paladin.

Thank you in advance for any help here.

These questions are answered quite well in many ways all over this forum. Just do a search for paladin specs.

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=458663

just a random one i saw and clicked on, read what boli typed, thats all there is to speccing a paladin.

Types of gear really won't differ much, other than if you are maintanking you want your gear to be better in quality, especially regarding the amount of crit mit it has on it. As far as 2handers go, no tank uses them at all, let alone paladins. Look at knight's stance under the crusader Shadow AAs. You want your myth or fabled epic and a shield.

Ditto. Boli covers it in the first response to the OP as linked by Maamadex.

I tried the Arch Heal for a while but it really doesn't add much as indicated in that thread. With all the effects in TSO, the cure is indeed far far better and it even generates some AoE hate. So take cure, smite, and block on the paladin tree and spend points as you like to get down there. Raid armament is very useful if you are the only crusader, especially for cloth wearers trying to live through physical dmg AoEs.

The Wisdom line will seduce some people especially from RoK days who remember Thuuga or VS but there isn't any mob I'm aware of with TSO where the fearless makes a difference. The 2% improvement even for the whole group just doesn't seem to add up to enough to justify it. Boli's DPS spec with trample (instead of DA) and then your tank spec with Divine Aura (instead of Trample) plus tweaks to up DPS in one and health in the other is the way to go. Spell crit rocks for Deadly Bane Warding, though that's more for MT than OT. Lots of TSO requires 2 or more tanks so the MT/OT distinction is arguably a bit outdated.

As I've whined elsewhere, Divine Aura is not a real invulnerability since it has a 50% cap but it is worth having since you've no other choice and will go down STA anyway for your tank spec. Stonewall is far worse but for 2 points you might as well take it in the vain hope it'll block something when you get there in AA.

As for gear, there are lots of ways to play it. If your raid can't spare much healing for you, ward proc gear is good. If you aren't taking on hard hitting stuff but instead holding little stuff, then go for more DPS gear. Some of the adds seem to hit harder than the name of the fight so don't assume it won't hit harder until you've tested it out. Aim for +mit through set bonuses and whatever else you can get your hands on to improve your mit, uncontested, and health - standard tank gear procedure.

P.S. And you can't really vote on the one thing you want most in the thread I started until you've played a paladin for a while, but hopefully some others will finally boil their myriad choices down and liven up this forum a bit.

Pretty much agree with what has been said although i have to admit i took a few points out of my spell crit and put in heal crit. In raids and a lot of groups i am around 100% melee crit high 90's - 100% spell crit and mid 50's on heal crit. Thats in my tank spec and then have trample if going aoe/dps spec. Not really sure if the heal crits make a huge difference but i'm sure more is better when you need them

Heal crits DO make a difference.. I notice the pinch when I'm in my AoE/DpS spec on raids and I'm tanking adds or even named with a single healer. without Heal crits I can do it... but its close. With Heal crits it feels much more comfortable; and I can maintain it very easily without spiking into the red often/at all.

Used correctly heals are a very effective way of increasing your tanking potential and unlike warrior temp buffs they can be enhanced with crits, base, +heal and our own mitigation reducing the amount that needs to be healed If you are struggling to survive agro (not so much an issue now at the end of an expansion but can make the difference at the beginning) enhancing your heals (cast speeds, ward recast, group heal, and heal crits) is a surefire way to increase your defence.
