I've had my templar since July when I first started playing EQ2. Right now is level 34, with not many AA's (yes I know I should get some) I've been told by my guildies that honestly.........although they hated to say it, templars suck at pvp. One guildmate has an 80 templar and she says she's done everything she can, the best gear, the best AA's, best spells, to try to get her templar to do decent in pvp but she just hasn't been able to.

The reason I chose the templar was I was thinking more along the lines of the AD&D cleric. They aren't as good as fighters, or other tank classes (at least in that game) but they are trained fighters, can wear weapons and armor and have knowledge in their use, and can also cast spells, and just like in EQ2 are the healers of the groups. I have also been told that inquis are better, but it's too late now. Well, I could make an inquis (is there any way to stay an inquis if you betray?) but my templar is now a 50th level weaponsmith, so I will keep him.

I've only really won one pvp battle. I actually took a screenshot of it. I won against what I believe was a troll shadownight. I killed him twice. The first time he attacked me. I was able to keep myself healed with vital intercession III (master) and holy intercession (expert) while at the same time I was attacking him with a divine smite, warring deities, divine strike combo, and my combat arts- skull crack, divine castigation, etc and eventually his hit points went down while mine went up, and I was able to deal him the dealblow. Seriously, though what are the stun spells, soothe, sign of pacification, harmony good for if as soon as you attack them it snaps them out of it? Maybe it would be good in a group to decrease threat, so you aren't the one who gets attacked, but for soloing it's not good for anything other than stunning them and running away. In this case I'd use wonderous buckling since it has the longest stun duration- 10 seconds. Though, I don't have a mount and sprinting wears me out real fast.

If clerics aren't for melee combat why are there so many combat arts in the pvp tree that help you do so? Skull crack and stuff, etc?

The AA lines for pvp and pve are the same, and the Str line does help the cleric's dps in pve. The Str line is more beneficial for soloing then grouping, of course, but those melee arts do help in pve.
