View Full Version : Crashing when making alternate (non-SOGA) appearance

My husband and I just put back in EQ2 yesterday (he did it all through the Launcher)While going to play today, I suggested we make our non-SOGA appearances (as we play SOGA on)I had no difficulty, but when he chose the option he crashed to a black screen.Tried again, crashed to a black screen.I tried it on my computer and it did the same thing yet I had no difficulty in my account to change my character's non-SOGA appearance.THis is odd because it doesn't seem computer file related (maybe something serverside?) as it crashed on his pc and my pc (both different OS and many other things) while under his account.Any help would be appreciated.For now, I know he has Windows 7 and I have Windows XP. If you need more specific info let me know what you need from which pc.

Greetings,When you installed the game did you download it seperately on each computer, or did you download the files on one computer and then transfer them to the other. If it was the latter, then a corrupt file issue seems likely. Assuming that is the case, I would advise making backups and deleting the following files:You may want to make backups and then delete the following files and folders:cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.iniAs well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.iniIf deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.

Husband received his main EQ2 game along with TSO (bought same day) and DLed through the Station Launcher.I installed my TSO through discs I bought with a preorder some time before, finishing the install through the station launcher when patching.We will delete and try again, and let you know what happens.

Well I deleted the files asked for (though I could not find the last one) and it worked. Only twice. When I tried to change my appearance again (I went into it anc cancelled the other 2 times) it crashed to black screen.Okay I tried something.As soon as I set it to Alternate (SOGA) appearance then Sorry for the delay in response. Since the holidays we've had to work almost exclusively on phones and e-mails because of the backlog.Let's try deleting the specific Soga files out of the game directory so they can be repatched. If you've installed recently, then the default directory should be the following:C:Program FilesSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest IIpaksThen try deleting the following files:Char_SOGA.vpkChar_Shd_SOGA.vpkChar_DDS_SOGA.vpkChar_ANM_SOGA.vpkIf the problem persists at that point then it's possible that this is a game bug of some sort. I've had at least 2-3 other people reporting a similar problem. Please try submitting a /bug report if the game is still crashing after deleting those files so we can try to recreate the issue.

I'm starting to believe this is some kind of bug that only effects very specific systems. Several other people have reported it but I can't find any common link between the cases. Submitting a /bug report would certainly be helpful if you haven't already.

All been bugged etc. I did find a work around to it though.After you make a character in SOGA log to character select and turn off SOGA. When you go into choosing an alternate appearance, you can then choose your appearance in non-SOGA with no difficulty.Thought to pop in and update that.
