View Full Version : My Biggest Problem with EQ2 - Question for all the Players (How textures load)

It's a cosmetic problem but it is just so aggravating because it absolutely kills the feel of the game and I feel like I must be doing something wrong.

I have played EQ2 on several computers across many years and I always have this problem. It's simple. A player character or npc looks horrible and ugly from far away but once I'm, say, 100 meters away, their textures instantly load, their helmet pops into existence and their clothes suddenly become cloth (accompanied by a violent animation where they begin flowing into existence).

I've tried every tweak and increasing every parameter but perhaps i'm missing one. All my animation stuff is on the absolute highest. But no other game I have ever played his this ridiculous problem. With every other game, there is at least some modicum of transition between crappy models and beautiful models (i.e. Age of Conan, etc.). Am I the only one experiencing this? I really want to enjoy the game but I simply cannot.

Thats just the level of Detail kicking in, not much you can do about it. You can try setting number of high detail characters to max and see if that helps.

@OP,I believe it is controlled by "Character LOD Texture Resolution" as well as "Complex Shader Distance". If these are settoo low, the textures will appear to "pop" in and out as you get closer / move away from an NPC.I know "Complex Shader Distance" does this for me on objects such as braziers around Freeport. If I put the slider toolow, the brazier disappears and all I see is the particle system. I believe this setting also influences NPC textures.I'm reinstalling the game so I can't test it for you but try putting LOD Textures on the highest setting and then play withthe slider for complex shaders.

I have done everything. Maybe it's just the way the game is designed and only I notice
