Ok, so it's been about 4 years since I last played EQII, and I got the itch to come back. After installing it on my new computer and reactivating my account, I get ready to play and.........

It's updating. Right now, it's been updating for 14 hours, non-stop, and doesn't look like it's anywhere near being finished.

So, does it really take that long? Or is there a way around it that I should have taken but didn't? Or did I just pay $35 for nothing? Because I am not going to wait for a week with this downloading 24 hours a day.

This sounds like a problem I had a few updates ago. There was one portion of the update that was not loading properly and I was stuck in a loop -- or something -- and this went on for a few hours until I realized something must be wrong. I called customer service, and the person I spoke with instructed me to try using the station launcher. It solved the problem for me. Don't know if this is your problem or not, but it might be worth a try.

http://launcher.station.sony.com/

So in general, about how long should it take to update ?

It is going to depend greatly on your connection. There is no way for any of us to tell.

Welcome back, but your really not spending 35 for nothing are you? We all have to wait for updates, and you will play eventually.

I suppose it would depend on your connection speed, but I can't imagine it could take 14 hours if all was working correctly. As I recall, the last time I reinstalled, it took maybe a couple of hours to update, but no more, and I have a regular old DSL connection. If none of the suggestions solve your problem, you might want to contact CS.

Servers are down for maintenance too, might have something to do with it. Anyhow, when the servers come back up with the latest hotfix you should be good to go. Make sure you're using the latest version of the launcher as well, I had problems with it hanging/crashing etc, until I got the newest one. Now, when ever it downloads updates, it usually runs at about 1.4 MB/sec

EQII is a good game, but, it's not worth spending $35 on to wait for 2 or 3 days while it downloads just so I can play. It's already been over 24 hours. That's entirely too long to be worth the price.

I'm on DSL, and I've tried stopping and repatching several times.

Currently I'm at 7.49 GB remaining and at 190-195kb/s.

Thanks for the suggestions, but, sadly none of them are working.

Unless something drastic changes, it's going to be at least another 6 hours, most likely longer. And streaming isn't doing any better.

So, again, thanks for the help.

It may be a bit of bad timing as well . Yesterday was a major game update and today they hot patched the Frostfell art assets, so there's probably a lot more download traffic than there normally would be.

Kieryll

I still have more than 6 GB to go, and my download rate has dropped to about 87 kb/s.

It's going to be a week of non-stop downloading before this ever gets going.

And I bought the Shadow Odyssey, too. I'm afraid to even think about getting that installed.

Now I get an error saying: There was a problem decompressing the file.

Any thoughts on that?
