So the 50% increase to run speed means it's just a 50% mount, correct? Or will it apply in dungeons also, as run speed rather than simply mount speed?

That thing is hideously ugly and in no way worth the money collector's edition costs (for me anyway since I get a digital copy via Fan Faire).

I would've bought the CE if the mount looked like the panther mounts the GMs used to have.

Looks really nice, grats to the artists. Please make sure this one scales to the character models just like it appears in that picture. The current bear mount is a bit too small for the Barbarian, looks like he's riding a chihuahua.

This mount needs to be MUCH faster then 50%. It at least needs to be higher then the Mount given with TSO.

Reconsider to changing it to 60% and then people might consider forking out a bunch of cash for a otherwise useless collectors edition.

*shrug* I'm looking forward to mine -- it's an upgrade for Aure, who's been riding her blue Nightmare at 48% ever since she nabbed one. I am a little sad that they stuck a helmet on there, since lynxy kitties have the cutest faces with those adorable eartufts... but I'm gettin' one!

Heck, I'd love a choice between an armored and an unarmored one, but it's too late for that now, at this point in the game (pun not intended). d: Just look at their faces! That is the face of a kitty that needs to be seen! hehehe.

It looks neat and all, and the idea of my Ratonga riding a cat really makes me laugh...

But...

50%? O_o

IMHO, the run speed should be faster considering it's a collector's edition.

60% or 65% would be a decent speed.

12-08-2009, 06:48 AM

The writeup doesn't mention the mount speed scaling with level, so it might be 50% from lvl 1. That would make it an upgrade of sorts over the TSO mount, which only reached 50% at lvl 80 (or was it just in T8? either way, same point). Assuming it's 1-per-char, rather than 1-per-account, of course.

(While the TSO mount seemed invaluable, and mechanically speaking it is, I wound up finding the running animation too annoying, and disliked the art enough, that I almost never use it; leaves me a little gun-shy about expansion-purchase /claim mounts )

I'm a little disappointed that it's not even faster than the Rillissian Soldier's quested mount. I'm getting a little tired about riding around on a Rhino (wasn't thrilled about it in the first place).I'm hoping it's at least one per character, so I can still have one on my main in case they ever put in a mount appearance slot. Or that it scales. Or something.

i have to say ima bit disappointed in the speed and the look both.

personally i think it should be at least 65% speed if you want people to actually usse it hence advertise the collectors edition more in game and the helm on the cat really detracts from what it could look like

Thanks Kiara for the sneaky peaky.....But as much as I think it really is one of the nicest looking mounts, I am a bit disappointed in the run speed and the fact there are no buffs. So I will have to pass on it. I run faster then 50% without a mount so it will only be for appearance if I was to get it. I cant justify the extra $30 dollars for that. But it really is the COOLEST looking mount that will be in game as of now. Thanks again Kiara for getting us the info.

I just want to know where this game went when paying 30 dollars is ok for a vanity mount that isnt very fast or has anything special about it. I came back briefly this month after almost a year off because of the whole 'buying everything cool with real money' stuff to find it worse than ever. Am I gonna come back in another year and see everyone wearing burlap rags that doesnt fork over tons of money to have things?

What ever happened to paying well for a game (50 bucks) and even paying well for expansions (40 or so bucks) and paying your monthly fee and knowing....and I mean KNOWING if you put in the time you get the cool things and if you dont you dont. This idea of shoving cash into a game to look/be good just leaves me feeling sad.

Where oh where did everyone get so numb that they think its normal to be charged 30 dollars for a VANITY mount? I think its taking its toll here though. I do notice when I came back NONE of the forums are as active as they used to be. I was quite shocked to see how little is posted these days compared to a year ago here and other places like flames.

At least I know by that I am not the only one who is mourning for a great game gone bad.

I think it's the best-looking mount yet for EQ2. But saying "this is the only one" and there will not be other colors, other styles, and other runspeeds, I think is a non-starter. 50% is not an upgrade for a lot of people. And I was hoping for a minimalist one without the big helmet, armor, etc. for my mage.

Let us upgrade it by putting in a vendor who will let us trade in the basic 50% Whistle for a 70-80% one with some kind of dungeon or raid dropped component.

I would imagine alot of ppl interested in the Collector's Edition are dedicated players and already have the 68% faction mount. Therefore the CE mount should have very good stats to offset the 50% speed to make it attractive. My only question is what is the mystery about letting us know if it is one per account or per character?

I've been thinking about this...

50% run speed is really very low end, especially what is available in game currently and what can be found in LoN packs (ie: the Frost and Fire horse mounts from Storm Break).

Now the mount could be made to run faster with the mount speed AA in Shadows Tree. But unless a toon has the points to spare/"waste" for that vanity AA, most aren't going to use it.

Some run speeds can be faster than a mount, such as a Dirge/Troub. A Dirge I know can run at 76% and transfers 72% to the group. For them, this would be an "appearance mount" since their speed will override it.

It just seems to me that the run speed is very low for the extra money to spend to get the mount. /shrugs

It's a pretty looking mount. I'd like to have it.

...But for anything but new alts (which I freely admit I will be making one to level up through Halas and to the top once Sent Fate comes out, just because I haven't made an alt in a while), it's a downgrade. The majority of my characters would probably prefer to be riding the cat (paticularly the Erudites <3) rather then the ugly bear-type-things or hippos they usually ride, but I'm not sure it's worth the loss of 10% (or more!) speed... and stats.

I view the mount add-on as being a slightly larger scale SC item. It's not supposed to be some serious must-have piece of gear for the elite, it's just an appearance item, pretty and less common, that many have asked for for a long time. It unbalances very little, it is available for those that want and is not required for those that could care less(except for me buying for my wife, for whom I expect it'll be mandatory).

If you don't want it, well hey, you'll get your expansion cheaper!

an idea could be that it has a level 0 runspeed of 50% and every 10 levels it gaines 3% so at level 90 it could be 77%

Why is it all the new mounts that come out have this ugly layer of armor over them? I never have liked the over the top armor that's being given to mounts, much less the ugliness of the mounts themselves? (Dire bears? Don't get me wrong, the artwork is great, just the subject itself....)

Take away the armor or have options with no/limited armor and I may find it more fashionable, personally. Just disapointing to see every new mount come out with this stuff. And any of them they come out with with desirable stats end up with the biggest, bulkiest, ugliest armor on them.

EDIT: A missing space irked me.

I'm going to have to agree with the majority of other posters, the armor is too heavy. If I hadn't been told beforehand that it was a cat..I wouldn't be able to even tell from those pics. Make the head visable and leave the body armor and you might have a winner. Good call on the run speed boost..I won't send you pie but I'm sure the Collectors Edition not falling flat on its face in sales will be a wonderful thanks I myself am still debating, if it were less armored you'd probably have a sale even without bonus stats on the hope for appearance slot mounts eventually.

LOL after folks cancel pre-orders due to the 50% run speed, it's adjusted to 65 lol...btw guys. It really is ugly. I mean no offense to those designing this stuff. But as a player of this game..it's [Removed for Content] ugly. Can hardly tell it's a poor cat.

Why you folks think we need such stupid looking armor on our mounts is beyond me. Not only are the mounts awful appearance wise...you have to slap even more god awful armor on them. Uncover them. Or at least let us choose to display or not display that armor. I'd be more content with a simple saddle/bridle type a thing. This mount is in no way worth the extra 30 bucks.

Yet another let down from SOE as of late. Update 54 is basically dead, age old bug fixes that should of been dealt with long ago, rather than in one of our game updates. No real content aside from that coming with it. Joyous.

Is this what we have to look forward to with the release of the expansion in Feb.? You have many very disgruntled players guys. Is SOE slowly backing out of eq is that it...hoping to kill it off without angering the player base that remains when they suddenly announce they are done with it?..because we're seeing no real effort here any more..a major indication a company is directing their efforts to better money makers.

Getting to that point renewing subs for many is a major decision we struggle with each month. Some of us have been playing this game 5+ yrs and have devoted much money and time to it. And are finding ourselves fed up with how things are going. Hopefully something changes, soon, before I too, decide to not renew.

Appearance mount slots would be nice. Though my chars won't have the mount because I'm getting my copy from FanFaire.

As for the mount being worth $30, it's not. Frankly, I figured most of that extra cost was to the EverCracked! DVD which is also included in the collector's edition, with the remainder going towards the pewter figurine. This is something SOE needs to understand . . . many more people now have multiple accounts so this isnt a $40 decision to get the xpac any longer for us, it can run hundreds of dollars. So getting access to content that would be TSO 2.0 WILL NOT be worth it.
A one-per-character mount with 65% runspeed is pretty nice, IMHO. (EDITED TO SAY: Thank you so much for responding to player requests and increasing the speed! Kisses!) True, my character with an ice mare won't want to use it, not even in an appearance slot should we get one, since I love the look of the ice mare. My character with the abyssal carpet won't use it, though she might in an appearance slot, as she hates crouching on her carpet. But I have 10 more characters, and assorted temporary characters coming and going all the time, so this mount will be very handy. I'll definitely be getting one collector's edition.

Problem is, the account I consider my main account won't be getting the CE, since that is the account I registererd for Fan Faire (of course.) I do wish the kitty was included in the FF package as well as in the CE. (I don't want much for free, do I? )

About that armor...I agree with many others who have posted. I would like to have seen a kitty with a saddle and bridle and very little else. So many of our mounts are heavily armored, and they are all beginning to look so similar. I want to see more of the cat!

I'm not sure how "in the bag" the whole mount appearance thing is, even though everyone talks like it already exists. It seems pretty complex compared to normal appearance slots. For those, it's just a matter of pointing to the appearance slot for the graphic, and if that comes back empty, point to the normal slot (and if that comes back empty just do whatever default nekkid graphic there is).But for mounts, they're just buffs, not actually a part of the character. So it'd be a completely different process, wherein they'd need to detect a "mount" buff being cast (hopefully they won't have to perform some check on every buff being cast), then grabbing the visual component of the clicky on the item in your mount appearance slot (which by itself I'm sure is non-trivial). I'm confident they can figure it out (for all I know, maybe it is really easy), but I'm not sure how much of a priority it is. I haven't even heard whether or not they're even considering it.

But I've looked at a few Gamestops and Best Buys and have talked with a manager at a Gamestop I'm friendly with and he has no clue how it's being handled.
