It doesn't follow the pattern of other holiday events (automatically activated at 12:01AM on the go-live day without a patch) so it would be nice to know when we can get in there and play.

Er... Hotfix for "frostfell tree"? So I guess Frostfell will be the 11th for EU? There's a down time from 2 to 6am PST already, will the hotfix be launched for all servers at the same time?

We will be leaving ALL EQII servers down following this maintenance in order to hotfix some bugs and to turn on Frostfell.
Unfortunately yes. Five hours of the downtime is for maintenance for all of SOE's systems and not related to EQII. We're hoping to bring the servers up before 10... but we think that's a safe estimate to get everyone properly tested and hotfixed.

We'll update you with info as we get it.

I suppose that 1am - 10am PST is not so bad - it allows time for a slow start to the day. If I translate that correctly in to GMT, (it is currently 2.15am here) I make that 9am - 6pm.

This is PURELY SPECULATION on my part...

I'm guessing that someone forgot to tell the server gnomes that it had been decided that the EQ2 servers should remain down until Frostfell was also patched in, so all the servers came back up after the maintenance. If this is the case, the EQ2 servers will likely come down again when the devs get to work and realize what happened and they will patch in Frostfell then.

I don't see any official word anywhere that Frostfell has been pushed back to the 11th.

I can verify that on Antonia Bayle server there was no Frostfell tree in Qeynos Harbor as of approximately 8AM PST even though the server was up. So often, the European server updates are delayed. Today, the servers have been down from 5 am this morning - had a couple of hours with no Frostfell from 7 am till 9 am and then down most of the rest of the time. And, as I started this message, was still down. It is now 19.20.

Without being in the least bit provocative or sarcastic, I would feel better were some explanation forthcoming.

How about locking the US servers, so that everyone is treated fairly and equally round here? Won't happen though as it's easier just to keep saying looking for more updates and hope we all go away. Hope that's polite enough for you, but it's becoming a standard thing round here lately. No LoN Tournaments; no EU distributor for your games, no 7 day head start if you don't want to pay over $70 (without any guarantee the game will arrive in time) and now no Frostfell before or at the same time as the US. Happy Frostfell, indeed!!!
