I was reading about a problem being that swarm pets die for splash damage making them worthless and consequently are going to be converted to simply normal spells with a pet graphic or something like that. Now I'm new....like 1 week new to the game but it my fine tradition of looking before I leap I thought I'd post a random idea I had anyway while I was trying out the summoner classes.

I was just wondering if some form of self replicating pet might not be a more flavorful alternative.

Like for example a give necromancers a spirit you could summon which would (for its duration) raise fallen foes as temp or dumb fire pets over its duration from safe distance allowing the swarm of pets to be slightly staggered so they are able to get a few hits in before being killed.

Alternately for conjurors have a pet that when killed broke into several smaller pets keeping your mini-mob from being too rapidly depopulated by AoE but still ultimately killable. At least this way it was take two or three but AoE effects to get pasted the smashing phase and but down the mob for good.

Further a third approach could be an ability similar to that of the Phantom Lancer from DoA All-Stars which gives the summoners normal pet a percent chance to created a dumb fire copy when attacking which would then join in the attack on the pets current target giving short term pet boosts.

Something like

Von Neumann's Enchantment

Casting time: Instant

Power Cost: XXX

Duration: 30 second

Recharge time: 1 minute

Effect: The Summoner's pet gains a 5% change to spawn a dumb fire clone whenever it strikes a foe. Dumbfire pets further have a 5% to copy themselves. At the end of this spell all pets created by this spell vanish.

Personally right now I've found it a lot more fun to play as a mystic with a wolf then as a summoner. The summoner pets seem too much like animated road blocks where as I've found the wolf is actually very helpful when soloing with my mystic and ads a lot to her DPS, particularly since it got is ward ability which similarly triggers randomly when the wolf is attacking. I know I don't speak with the voice of experience but those are my observations and suggestions thus far and I thought they might be worth bringing up. If I'm waaaaay off base for some reason here I hope you won't bit my head off
