Hello,

I have two friends who decided to play EQ2 recently, they tried the trial account a month or so ago and then waited for the collection pack to come out which they bought two copys of.

"Yesterday they loaded the collection pack onto both of their pc's but when they go to launch EQ2 they both get a error:

C:Program Files (x86)Sony Online Entertnmentstation launcherstationlancher.exe

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the applicatin event log for more detail."

get this on both eq2 and lancher

I personally have never seen this error so can not help them fix it. I thought maybe they were getting it because they had not gone to there station account and updated it with the new reg key from the collection pack. So they did that but still get the above error.

Can someone please help? As part of the collection pack they will be getting 60 days worth of free play but they can't get into the game to actually play so they are losing out on the free play!

They are both running Windows Vista 64

Ok friend tried a few things that were under one of the sticky post and was able to get past the orgional problem that I posted but now has a new problem.

When the friend clicks on the launcher he gets this message right away:

StationLauncer.exe has stoppedworking

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Not sure why they are getting so many problem's. When they played the trial version back in october the game ran fine but now that they have loaded the collection pack and upgraded their station account they can't get the game to work.

It has taken me the better part of a year to talk these two friends into playing EQ2 (they have played WoW for years) and now that they finally try to play the game they are getting nothing but problems.

Could really use some help with these errors please!

They both run Vista 64bit

Greetings,

Since they are using Vista, try these steps first:

1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Right click on the icon and select "Run as Administrator"If the problem persists at that point then you might want to try using the streaming client instead of the station launcher. That file is available here:http://everquest2.station.sony.com/...m?reinstall=yesIf you install that file to the same directory that already contains the game then it should be an extremely short update. Let us know if you are still unable to update the game at that point.

I am having the same problem. I am running Windows Vista but have disabled UAC and set the launcher and .exe for Windows XP service pack 2 compatability. I have tried the new station launcher but get "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the event log for more detail. I have also downloaded the streaming update/launcher and can run it but all I get is a picture with EVERQUEST in red letters and II in glowing. It says SOE Sony Online Entertainment. Nothing else seems to be happening at this point. There is no download or update progress bar. What to do?

Sorry for the late update but wanted to post what I did to fix my friends problem. It seems this new launcher does not like Vista at all and hope they get that fixed for the future.

What I did was take over my copies of the game (from the TSO expansion) deleted what they had installed including the new launcher. Then I re-installed the game from my CD's on their PC's and let the patcher downloand the updates which only took about a hour or so. Now they can play the game fine so it seems the new launcher is the primary problem.

I assume that when the new expansion comes out everyone will be forced to use the new launcher I am just hoping that by then the bugs will be worked out with it on al the operating systems.

Personaly I don't see the reason why the launcher even had to be messed with the old one has always worked fine /shrug (old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it")

I'm thinking it's using the same files to load the account that loaded successfully?

Why should I have to download the streaming client when A) I don't want to and B) this was working just fine this morning - boxing an account?P.S. My game files have liked Vista JUST FINE till today.

All I can add is the info that seems to be constantly on my clipboard. Someday maybe SOE will actually sticky their own handy information because sooo many people ask for this.

TSR-DanielH wrote:

There are 2 versions of the launcher available. Whichever one you are using, I would recommend trying the other if you are experiencing a problem. The first one would be the station launcher, available here:

http://launcher.station.sony.com/

The other version would be the streaming client that can be downloaded here:

http://everquest2.station.sony.com/...m?reinstall=yes

Also, if you are running the game on Windows 7 or Vista then make sure you follow these steps:

1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4.
Oh, and you can try option #3 as well which is to run the program EQ2.exe from you reverquest2 directory. That is the older patcher, but for me it's been the most reliable one.

If none of these work, then the problem is most likely getting a connection to the servers. That requires icky talk about ports open, router changes, and other things to make hair gray.

For me as well, and I tried one of them at least when I pasted it in. Now I also get nothing, and it seems a bit like all of Sony left for vacation. They are having a lot of connection problems (now even on the websites), but we as players can't do much about that.

Someone else posted that they had issues with their antivirus, and eventually had to uninstall it to try EQ2 (in which case it started to work).

Another possibly issue is the ports on their router. There is a post about how to do that, but I am getting 404 errors on a lot of the Sony links right now (as are others).

The few that do work for me that might help are:

Top Issues

Port Information for EQ2

The sublink in Port Info isn't working for me right now though.
