Hello everyone, my PC is a mixed bag of parts that I threw together. What is the best bang for the buck that I can do to see a boost in FPS. Here is my system specs, keep in mind I am looking to spend around $200. I wish I could build a new PC but money is really tight right now. Thanks for your time.

Phenom 2 2.6GHZ x3

ASUS mother board

4GB of ddr2 1066 ram

Nvidia 8800GTX 768MB ram

850watt power supply

onboard sound

160GB hard drive

windows xp 32bit

What's the range of the FPS you're currently getting? With what you have now you should be having no problem at all running ~30 FPS with settings on higher settings in a raid environment...

Some things to note are that you are using WinXP 32 bit and have 4 megs of RAM, some of which goes unused.

You have a triple core processor at 2.6GHz. EQ2 right now uses one core primarily, some offloading to a second core. Third core is unused by EQ2 at this time. But, if you run other apps in background they can benefit from the third core. Ideally the faster the CPU the better for EQ2 since it is so focused on a single CPU.

You could upgrade Windows XP to XP-64 bit or Win7 64 bit, and use more of the ram. But, it probably wouldn't make much difference to gameplay. Minor speed upgrade at best, I would think.

You could replace the CPU with a faster dual core, and get a minor speed upgrade at the expense of a core.

Your video card should be fine, but there are always better ones coming out.

The question becomes What are you finding that makes you think you want an upgrade?

That would help us see if there is another option. Sometimes its driver issues, or maybe the motherboard options are set incorrectly.

I am only getting around 30fps on ballenced. I want to run on a higher setting and get around 50fps, but I just dont know if I can do it with this setup and only spending around another $200.

Would I get a huge boost with this processor? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16819103680

Its a dual core 3.1ghz

I am also looking at this graphics card. let me know what you think. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814130339

Even at that it was a close call.

Just as a reference, I get about 30fps in the general game at the "Very High Quality" setting. Sometimes more fps, sometimes less of course. Here is what I have:

AMD Phenom II 550 Black, like in your link

4GB DDR3 1066 Ram

WD hard drive, 16MB cache

ATI HD4850 512MB video card

Windows 7 64bit

I would be hesitant to say you would get a lot more fps when changing the CPU. You might get another 10% fps.

When you set the game to the quality you like (ie High Quality or Very High), what fps do you end up with? Your system shouldn't perform all that differently from mine.

I was only running on ballenced because last time i tried a higher setting the FPS was in the 20's. But the PC has had a reformat sense then. When I get home I will give the higher settings a try and report back. a 10% boost of 30fps is only 3fps lol not worth $106. I was hoping it would give a much bigger fps boost.

Yeah, well the differences between those two chips is only the extra core and the difference in clock speed. The clock speed might get you that 10%. The loss of the extra core shouldn't make much difference since EQ2 doesn't use three. Other apps you have running might use the third one though.

On High Quailty I get from 26fps to 39fps depending on the area.

Salora@The Bazaar wrote:

On High Quailty I get from 26fps to 39fps depending on the area.

That sounds about right compared to my system. I get 30fps or more most of the time, some new areas drop it down as enter them.

Personally, if I was to spend $200 on my system right now I would just put it aside and add a bit more to it over time, eventually replace motherboard/cpu/ram and then the video card.

I also want to see what the Shader 3 changes will do to the system. We shouldn't have any problem running the high quality version of the shader.
