View Full Version : Fallen Dynasty Monk Titles: their significance, and which should I choose?

Now that I've collected a nice big handful of monk pebbles, I'm beginning to dream of the day when I'll be able to choose which titles I want. First, there are the two prefix titles, Golden Sun and Sagacious, which each cost 500 pebbles.

Can anyone add some insight regarding these two titles? Are you aware of anything in the lore that might help a person decide which title is most appropriate for their character? Perhaps there are stories of monks with these titles?

The title Sagacious would seem to indicate that the monk in question is acutely insightful and wise, with sound judgment and farsightedness. But what about the title, Golden Sun? Does this title indicate that the monk is brave and heroic?

From the quest, the Trial of Sun Kai, we learn that Golden Sun Kai was a master of harnessing his bloodlust. Legend tells that when the mayor of Sun Kai's village was kidnapped by murderous bandits, Sun Kai infiltrated their stronghold to save the mayor. Instead of butchering all of the bandits, like he felt would be justice, he kept to the task. He saved the mayor quicker than a snake can strike, while only killing five enemies. (That's the only info I could find on a monk with the prefix title Golden Sun, but it does seems that Kai was brave and heroic, as well as being filled with bloodlust.)

Then, there are the suffix titles, the Persistent (100 pebbles), the Fragrant (150), the Vigilant (200), the Fox (250) and the Decimator (300 pebbles.) There are many pebbles required for the titles, and I'm debating whether to get a suffix title or to save my pebbles for one of the prefix titles, and of course, which suffix title would best fit my character. Any thoughts on this, or on the significance or history of any of the suffix titles? (The Fragrant, for instance -- are there any stories of monks with that suffix title? What is its significance?)

LOL! Actually, I like doing the trials. I'm extremely directionally challenged and frequently lost in RL. Take me to an unfamiliar place and spin me around twice and I may never find my way back! Therefore, finding my way through this instance in order to seek out the terracotta warriors is rather difficult for me, to say the least. Since the trials require that one run the instance over and over, though, I'm finding that I'm finally starting to learn my way around, and this is quite satisfying.

So, yeah...I like the trials.

Maybe I should have posted this under Lore rather than under Monk.

Cusashorn, I hope you read this. Can you offer a bit of insight on this subject? I would think it's certainly right down your alley.

PS I'm just starting my first run through the Trial of Sagacious Ting, and here's a bit more info on him, for anyone who might be interested in such things.

"Sagacious Ting was a scholarly man. His foes were often deceived by the reading glasses perched on his nose and his slight build. Ting's life long pursuit was knowledge. He used battle as another form of learning, mostly studying his opponents and attempting to mimic their style while fighting them. An enemy of Sagacious Ting once remarked that fighting him was like staring into a mrror and then punching yourself in the face."

Unfortunately, I have never seen any references to the characters mentioned in those stories anywhere else in the game. I believe the short blurbs told by the faction merchant were written just to give some meaning to the titles chosen, and were not meant as any kind of significant back story or lore revelation. I chose "Sagacious" myself, because my character is an old man who values wisdom over strength. After the release of TSO, I have been very pleased with my "Sagacious Argond Valiantfist the Enlightened" moniker. I am a major fan of Everquest monk lore, having played a monk in both EQ1 and EQ2, so it is a bit disappointing that nothing further was ever done with the titles themselves. Just pick whichever ones sound the best to you--that's all the meaning they really have.
