I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I feel like it fits appropriately enough to the lore forum that I'm going to post it here. I feel like this game is missing a few other things that may help the lore and the overall EQ2 setting.

The first thing I'd like to see is a new EQ2 atlas, that covers everything that has happened since KoS, and goes through SF. It should also include changes that happened to old world zones since then also (Everfrost, Lavastorm, etc.). It would be nice to have another book to thumb through when I want to read up on little pieces of lore for a particular zone, or just have an offline map to look at (I know that sounds odd).

Next is a real lore site. An official EQ2 lore site that gives players a chance to read up on the lore, maybe having an official timeline, and continuing to keep it in the perspective of members of the world of Norrath, so that it could be subject to change (after all history is written by the Victor right?). It should hopefully be a work of collaboration with some of the people that have done great work in the community on the lore of the game as it is, like the ?Atheneum?. This way we can get an official lore site, that adds to what the community has already done instead of romping all over the communities efforts.

The final thing, and it's just an odd want, is I'd like to see some fiction novels related to the story of EQ2. These should be close to official cannon, or possibly just things that build off of official cannon, but dang it, it seems like all the other games out there that I even partially like, that become real blockbusters, have their own fiction novels (Halo, Blizzard Games, Star Trek when it releases, others). Why don't we have some, and if we do why aren't they mentioned more often?

The thing that keeps me coming back to EQ2 every expansion, and buying things like the EQ2 Atlas is the interesting lore that it has. Sure some of it is copy and paste stories from other sources (like maybe the gods acting like roman gods, etc), but it's the blend of lore that exists in this game that makes it so great, and I'd love to see more of that lore get into things I can actually buy and put in my real house. Hell, buy a book, and when I buy it there's a code inside that I can redeem or something. Or buy it through SOE and I'm given the code when I buy it using my account. I don't care, I'd just like to see more of that lore out in the world of Earth.

Thanks!

Acuza

great ideas I agree! doubt it will happen personally but still great idea. It would be a self supporting advertising campaign for eq2, but we all know that eq2 is not the best at advertising

There have been a couple EQ novels. The Rogue's Hour and The Blood Red Harp, I believe are the titles, they were both pretty good, Harp was set prior to EQ1 timeframe iirc, Rogue during. I see no reason why there couldn't be novels made that relate more specifically to EQ2 just have to find willing authors that have enough lore background and then give them access to a bit more of the official stuff

the idea of allowing an in game fluff item with purchase of said book would be further encouragement and reason I would buy it!

one reason for never putting lore officially down on paper anywhere, they can't change it if they need to. But I would buy a lore book if they put one out.

It would be fairly safe for SoE to produce a big book of some of the core diety storys (stuff that they would be nuts to change, and can easily explain as written by one of the races in game and not a fully accurate story) and offer it up for Station Cash. You get an in-game version of the book and Cafe Press or some other print on demand book service produces and ships a real copy to your front door.

They could even give you an in-game momento of the story. Probably a house item, or something like the bottle you got for DoF.

I'd just like a wiki really, other MMO lore i can reaserch with that, but with EQ you gotta go through a ton of cryptic ingame books with referances to names and places and events i have no idea about.

I agree on the wiki idea. There are a couple of decent lore sites out there (but only the Athenaeum comes to mind), but they aren't encyclopedic. I love having a reference for all the bazillions of tomes in this game, but it would be nice just to be able to look something up and read everything we know about it, including what sources the info came from. What would also be nice is a transcription of all the dialogue from quests and such.So...someone get on it.

WikiDot.com is a free wiki site that's easy to use... I used it to make a priviate wiki just to store info because my brain doesn't do the remembering thing too well *nodnod* WikiDot has a nice bibiliography feature for citation, and a tag feature... I'd recommend it if anyone plans to take the task head-on.

Oh, and I totally support in-game books! *cough*

And... just a random thing... Why "like the roman gods"? Greek mythology came way before Roman, by like, a thousand years, give or take, and the two are actually very different. d: Unless you actually did mean the Roman gods, but... I'll bet you're thinking of the Greek gods. Greek gods were human-like in their behavior and distinct individuals; Roman gods were more just like personifications of driving forces. Roman mythology was centered around heroes and battle, not stories so much, so the Gods were just sort of the pushes and pulls of the universe.

[EDIT: New? Why did I say "new free wiki site"? There's nothing new about it! *helpless shrug*]

The thought of just adding it to EQ2i crossed my mind, but things like adding quest dialogue would just muddy things up for those who just want to go there and see the bare minimum to get quests done ASAP (and I'm not knocking that ). It just seems like the strength of EQ2i and the potential strength of this lore wiki would mutually dilute each other. Seems easier to have a dedicated wiki just for lore. Written more like an encyclopedia than a "how-to" guide.Official SoE wiki would be very cool, as long as it was indeed a wiki...or they started being a lot more forthcoming with "official" lore.
