I'm researching for laptop that has good battery life, but will still be able to play EQ2. I'm guessing that the new streaming client will allow me to compromise and purchase a laptop that will be able to do both. Does anyone have any suggestions on a particular laptop?

Also, are the system requirements for the streaming client posted anywhere? Sorry if I put this post in the wrong forums.

Thanks

On suggestions there are a couple of Toshiba's I like (admittedly I'm a bit biased here since I used to work for them and still do like the corportation), currently I'm using a P200-1EE myself for EQ2 during the week as I live away from home. It originally had an RRP of £700 in the UK 2 years ago and has a 1.5Ghz Core 2 duo and a ATI 2600 256Mb graphics card inbuilt, I play there on balanced settings where it performs generally fine.

For a recommendation all I can say is if I was to buy a new one today I'd be tempted for something like this one Satellite L555 @£700, what I'm looking for is firstly a discrete graphics card (its got a decent one in the ATI 4650 which is twice as good as my current one) a decent processor (a 2.1 Ghz core 2 duo is ok, really would prefer 2.5Ghz in a laptop) and DDR3 running at a good frequency.

So while that's the best choice I can recommend at the moment the processor is a little light for what I would ideally like (2.5Ghz feels right to me), hence I'm holding on a few months hoping that the perfect combination comes up. You can get a much better performance laptop for sure although you are talking about spending ~£1200+ in the UK if you go for a dedicated gaming laptop, but I think something along the lines of the above one give you the best price-performance ratio.

As for battery life though, I'd say you won't find anything really that lasts all that long, my Toshiba lasts just under an hour on high power using the battery, maybe a newer one would be useable on economy power settings (where the laptop lasts ~3 hours) but if it did you'd be running EQ2 at really the most basic settings, even very simple PC games are pretty awful to play with the power turned down I find (although the 1.5Ghz processor is a bit weak, must swap that out somepoint).

Whatever you do though of course a desktop will always be the better performance choice, I think my PhenonII based one cost me <£700 and runs everything on extreme (Although a bit choppy in a couple of areas) right now.

EDIT : one last thing, this thread on the forums is great for giving you a rough idea of what to expect from a hardware combination.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up going with a sony CW series 14" laptop. So far I like it. Now I'm just waiting for the streaming client to go live!

The streaming launcher has gone live at this point and is available through the following link:

http://everquest2.station.sony.com/...m?reinstall=yes

That said, there seems to be some confusion here. The streaming client wont actually lower the hardware requirements for the game. It will just shorten the amount of download time necessary before you can load up the game. Please let us know if you have any questions.
