I believe that's the Tower of the Moon, the observatory located near the entrance of Maj'Dul.

lore wise not too much, as i believe Ro and CL used to be connected. I could be wrong though, it's been a few years since I looked at DoF lore.

You use to be able to zone directly from East Commons (the one next to Freeport) to South Ro. I think you could zone directly from Freeport to South Ro too, but I usually didn't visit the south side of Freeport. Or was it east? Freeport really wasn't my town in EQ1. I'd much rather spend time in Rivervale, or Thurgadin for my tradeskill needs.

So yeah the desert of Ro was close to Freeport in EQ1. Most of Ro sank apparently. The parts we're familiar with is the area surrounding the oasis which was spared again. I'm still wondering what happen to the old combine spire that was in Ro. It was one of the old style stone pyramid in the middle of some short spires kind. It looked an awful lot like the one in Darklight Woods. Not like the one in Gfay which closely resembled the one in the Karanas, and the second spire in Kunark.

I still wonder about that spire too. Kunark had a player used combine spire. Then there was the huge spire in what we now call Terran's Grasp that had the pyramids built in it. Those wern't useable in EQ1. The druid ring was close to the player spire. You could almost see one from the other. The TG spire was a bit farther away. Maybe if you hunt the water close to TG you'd fine peices of the other spire?

It was NRo by Freeport/East Commonlands, then Oasis of Marr, then South Ro on the far end.
