There may possibly be other posts regarding this same thing, but the search function seems too sensitive and therefore searching for "character slots" brings up far more than what I'm willing to scan through. An exact phrase feature would help here tremendously btw.

Anyway, I have recently switched from a station access account to a standard account, and would like to have more slots. I would like to suggest an option to purchase additional slots, either by tacking on an additional $1 or so per month for each extra slot (up to the max allowed for station access). Or better yet, give us a station cash item that will let us purchase them permanently for $5-10. Can't really see paying more than that, but this may give a good cash inflow to SOE and not be quite so cumbersome as paying $30 a month just for more slots.

Please consider something like this!

Would be nice if players could purchase upto 24 slots per one account for the 24 classes in the game.

Paying for 2 Station accounts to play all classes, is more than a tad steep.

Like the token idea, as folks can add extra slots when needed -- especially during those double XP events.

dead horse post, you can use search to find the myriad of other posts on this exact same subject

http://eq2.zam.com/db/guides.html?guide=1049

fromt he link

Since we're getting a new race, will we get another character slot? Scott Hartsman says they'd like to, but that decision involves the Station and it gets into lawyers and contracts. It's not that it's impossible, but it's time consuming and prohibitive.

If they ever do take the time and effort to add more slots, it would be a lousy business decision and a poor ROI to make them anything put a monthly reoccuring charge of 2/3 dollars each.

The question's been around since launch, when there were only 4 slots.

Other companies don't seem to be as concerned with storage space, and have more "reroll" traffic at lower levels. Coincidence?

Practically though, I've played all 24 classes to 40+, and there're only a couple of classes I still have two of, and that's more due to their crafting levels. Betraying back and forth between subclasses as needed would be my choice for the others.

You can always send it in as /feedback

With a game this size with so many player combos, it's just logical for those with Station accounts to have 24 slots -- 1 toon per sub-class. Having players pay $64/mon to play all 24 is yet another reason EQ2 loses customers. Why get hit by yet another barrier, when other games allow almost unlimited online characters (the MMO I played had no limit, and could see players with 10 toons on at once auto-following...ultimate of altitis)?

Token idea sounds good, since it'll limit the amount of extra slots when SoE is worried about database space, too.

The most cost-effective way to get the extra slots to support your alt-o-holism is to get a second account.

You can pass stuff between toons on teh two accounts using your guild bank as needed.

Kigneer wrote:

Other publishers allow more than 12 characters per account that's for sure

While true, a statment like this should be partnered with the comment that EQ2 characters take up more storage space than the characters from any of EQ2s rivals.

When setting the maximum character allowance per account, they need to have the storage space avalible for that character to be maximised, at least in terms of space.

Each character stored in the database has its adventure level, tradeskill level, the level of all skills, languages known or not known, quests completed, quests in progress (along with that progress)and faction standings. They also have their inventory of equipped and appearance itens, an associated bag, bank and vault space, with each slot of that potentially having an item with a seperate adornment stored in it.

There is the characters house, which is stored as a part of the character, there is his spell book of several hundred spells, each with an associated quality level. There is his achievements, as well as his stored achievements.

Each of these things adds up to make for a fairly large amount of storage needed for an individual character. They can't really say they will give us a free character slot that only has access to some of the above, so the introduction of a new slot means they need to have the space for every account in the game to create that character.

Since storage space is essentially a one off payment for Sony (the ongoing costs of running a hard drive are negligable), the idea of selling individual slots, permanantly and for a small though reasonable fee is something I suggested when the Smedbucks store was launched (I'd say when it was introduced, but it was launched before it was introduced).

Oh dont be ridiculous. It doesnt take anymore room than any other MMO. The fact is the SOE developers are too lazy to do it or dont have the money to pay people to activate especially with recent layoffs and how bad the last expansion did.

Every other game has this feature except WoW but that game is so easy people just make alts and level to 80 in one week on other servers.

The fact that this isnt an option is a huge chance for them to make money but they would rather make Vanguard expansions...

Listen up folks, ask yourself one simple question...

They already have people paying for extra character slots, so why would $oE ever change that?

Guild Wars has that for years, i bought 4 extra characters, only cost me $10 each.

just buy a character and be done with. that what i like the best.

i just need 2 more characters slot for eq2's crafter, need scribe and alchemist, i got sage already picked.

so i may have all rounded crafters to support my alt's needs. but 24 character slots? that seem little repetitive and very time sink if having to collect all the rares and spellbooks for each slot? wow, someone's brain been fried and no real life "out of game" activities.

You can make more characters with your current subscription by utilizing the Test, EU and US servers- all are seperate

having extra characters on test and overseas servers sound ideal, but there are someone that want to get many on a single server for some reasons.

If you want more characters get station access or a second account.(also In before the lock for necro posting a thread from 8 months ago!)

Sounds like an excellent free to play marketplace addition.
