I'm a new player to EQ2. I played a troll SK back in EQ1 and I absolutely loved it. I loved the troll in particular due to its looks and its regenerative powers. I started a new troll SK here to play with my wife's fury. We were in the newbie zone and some guy sent me tells telling me I was crazy for playing a troll and that the only good SK races were Ogre and Iksar. I told him I wanted to play a troll and he said I was being foolish and I would regret it later.

In most MMO that I have played race doesn't really matter at the end and its more a personal choice. Is that not true here?

I think that guy was just raining on you parade.

Some races have innate abilities or racial choices that are more aligned with a particular role. Generally, these differences are marginal at end game and rarely stop people from rolling the race they want to play. Since trolls have tank oriented choices I can't see much reason to worry.

If you want to see all the racial selections check this http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Character_Race

Ya, seems like it. Racial choice is pretty much irrelevant.

The only difference between an ogre and a troll that could possibly have an impact on a fight is that Ogres get a 10 second stun immunity every 5 minutes and Trolls get a 20 second fear immunity every 5 minutes. The selectable racials both fall under the fighter/priest trees.

Iksar have fighter/mage trees; the mage tree might have a racial or two that you'd like, but they don't have any innate racial that helps in combat. They have safefall and underwater breathing.

Troll still is very good for an Sk but honestly that is every race the only reason Iksar may be better is that is has waterbreathing something they took away from the troll Iksar also has safefall that's good as well.

So actually it's more and less fluff stuff that is in favour of the Iksar. Well at least fro me cause made a new Iksar Sk

Removal of water breathing can be solved forever by getting Hadden's Earring, http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Hadden%27s_Earring . This applies to any race of course.

While you are doing that one, do the Guise of the Deceiver as well, http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/A_Missing_Mask . This takes care of the problem with being big in certain low dungeons.

There are other solutions to both issues, but doing it this way requires no components or spells.

I also have the Earring of the Solstice ( http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Earring_of_the_Solstice ) on all my 'main alts', for the 45% run speed, but you do have to be a bit insane to do this.

By the way, both earrings can be cast and removed and the breathing and speed buffs remain.

But thanks for the cast tip!

For hight if you have the 4 year veteran award, use the mystic puppet disguise and turn off illusions it will make you a lot smaller. Use it all the time on all chars even ratonga's

About the Solstice earring don't you have to be 80 to actually wear the item? It looks very good
