This thread is for feedback and issues with the new World Event quest lines and the disaster in Freeport.

Strange events are afoot in Qeynos and Freeport! Intrepid adventurers should seek out Royal Librarian Brinn in Qeynos Harbor and Sir Tallen Yevix in West Freeport.

The quest lines start with "Tinmizer's Magnificent Messenger" on the Freeport side and "A Lost Library Book" on the Qeynos side. They're heavily lore-focused, so watch out for spoilers on this thread!

Is there supposed to be something preceding these events? Talking to Sir Tallen Yevix I almost get the feeling we're missing something.

The Traces of Teleportation quest doesn't make it clear that you're supposed to harvest the Tinmizer pieces.

Also a bug: whenever you zone into a zone with the Tinmizer pieces, it opens the waypoint window. /bug'd

Yeah, I have a fix for that checked in and on the way. The waypoint window is supposed to show you an actual waypoint for the piece.

Unfortunately, we don't have a cinematic for the crash and the fires starting in Freeport, so you come onto the scene afterwards and have to piece it all together.

So, is there no house item as a reward for completing the Qeynos questline? I know that one of the rewards for completing the event from the Freeport side was a replica of Soulfire. Just want to be sure that I'm not missing anything.

Cheers.

Caele 80 Mystic of Test

lol, I sound pretty greedy . Absolutely loved the quest! Just wanted to be sure that it was completed correctly. the rewards for the Qeynos questline, as far as I can tell, were the Title and a choice of a temp. feign death pot and a temp invis pot.

ps. The quests rewarded 50 status points for a lvl 80 toon . . . is that working as intended?

edited to remove all traces of greed and jealousy

*sigh* I feel very short-changed and a bit like a yo-yo ..

We drag around some lovely books but we don't get either!. .. The Evils get a glowing house item and we get potions that will sit and rot in most bags as being "meh" ..

Can we please get the poetry book we were supposed to deliever to that [censored] of a Fairy Princess? Since we never gave it to her and youknow who ended up where he ended up .. we still should have it. Or, can we have a house item of that Void Crystal that was used to bind Antonia? It's sooo shiny .. *grin*

I did my only 2 bugs I encountered .. minor ones. Murr doesn't check for mentored level. Ouch, btw. And, Antonia has to be hailed to get her talking.

*double sigh* I hope this void stuff goes away soon .. and .. never comes back.

A fix is on the way for the status rewards. I'm going to have one quest give a respectable chunk of status and the next one give some coin.

The rewards for the Qeynos and Freeport quests are balanced. If you haven't got the final reward for the Qeynos questline, then you should think about the storyline a bit to figure out where to go next...

(When you figure it out, please don't spoil it too blatantly!)

Nice touch with the high elf in Crow's recognizing my deeds with Kunark. And what's that with recognizing me from EQ1 days or EQOA?

I love both quest lines. Just disco-ed the final Qeynos reward. If you put 3 zeros on that status awarded I'd be a happy camper in that regard, too.

But: the video sequence of listening in on the meeting under the palace shows all sentences twice. This will need a second look, Windslasher.

Hope I haven't spoiled it to much.

Purr~... is simply irrestible ...

PS: Antonica doesn't even have a speech bubble when mousing over her. Might want to add one, then hailing her makes more sense.

edited to take out a misunderstanding from my side.

Below 80, all bets are off.

Glad to know you can do both. However, there is a lvl 65 Qeynos Guard at the foot of the stairs to the castle. An evil or exile wanting to do the good side of this will have to be lvl 55 before they can sneak past him. I know this one from extremely painful experience - my exile necro died to this guy a dozen times trying to sneak past him to get to the writ-giver further up the stairs. Any chance this guy could be moved or his aggro range reduced to not go all the way across the stairway?

Murrar Shar, at least, is far enough that if you're careful you won't aggro the lvl 80 guards at the top of the stairs while talking to him.

Edit: Actually, as the freport side takes you into the Academy of Arcane Science and its lvl 50 door guards, no good or exile can manage the quest below lvl 40.

Any chance that being on these quests could temporarily flag you as not kos? You are assisting to save the city's leaders, after all. And about the worst I can see happening is someone might hang onto the quests and be non-kos in both cities for a month - a pretty negligible risk, all told.

This is not the kind of event post I usually jump into, but help me understand here... Murrar Shar. Sure, I remember him from the newbie isle when I rolled my first toon.
Did the Freeport Quest on my Evil toon Zerker L 28 in a good amount of the Icy armor from FF - and agree we nee the Book Icon used a bit more as I didn't find it intuative. As to who to go to for magical help, I had to ask. Perhaps a bit more of a clue in the dialogue there??

Very nice quest, not too long, not too much wandering about, but again I had to ask abou tthe other 2 pieces of Tinmizer stuff locations - I couldn't just assume it was at portals. Granted the new portal system makes visiting each one easy by comparison with before, but again, maybe a little clue might help. I did wonder if that quest was arranged to make us familiar with using the new portals.

Loved the quest and getting to see inside the Citadel was also a reward for me, but I am funny like that,

I then went to my Good toon, L 13 Ranger, who I didn't realize was still in L 1 starting armor from the Queen's Colony! Doh! Not a good idea. She has levelleved very quickly in quests so I forgot to check her armor and spells.

General - the Qeynos quest involves a lot more running around than the Freeport one, I found. At least 2-3 times more, with no fast transport she could use.

Due to my low armor and spells I had to get help to kill the 2 guards I escort to meet the translator, but that wasn't the Quest's fault. I also tried to get help for the final encounter with Murrar and Antonia but the friend couldn't zone into the instance...Fair enough, again my armor was toi blame and the friend was an Evil toon so not on my Quest.

I will go back to try this again with the better armor I am trying to craft now.. tin armor? Eep!

She is too underpowered for her level to survive the Easy Icy Keep and try and get Icy armor, and also no armor at all shows for her on the Goblin Seller for that quest. Is that her level being under 20? Will mention this on the appropriate thread for FF.

Overall, great quest, some amazing surprises, more than on the Freeport one. I would say it is by far the more interesting Quest to do, thought the Freeport one also has its moments like the device that contacts Lord Lucan. But I wouldn't say they are balanced in the amout of combat and effort needed in running around. Freeport is definitely less work.

Be that as it may, they are both Awesome Quests and I really, really, enjoyed doing them, and the surprises they brought as the quest unfolded. Well done, everyone!

I just had a strange graphical bug with the cut scene under the palace. While I have my graphics set to High Quality the scene seemed to be rendering at a much lower level. It's kind of hard to describe, but almost like if I had scrolled in it would have rendered fully.

The only other thing I noticed for the Qeynos quest line that hasn't already been reprorted is that the Royal Librarian was not showing up on track. I found him eventually but for a while I thought I had the wrong zone.

Something bothers me about the lore behind the Qeynos side of this quest. Warning to anyone who wants to see the story for themselves:

HERE BE SPOILERS!!! And a lot of lore sifting.

We finally learn Kyle Bayle formed and briefly ruled the colony of New Qeynos before it was destroyed, and that area later became the Dead Hills. But we're told he did this in the Age of Turmoil.

The problem here is that EQLive (Age of Turmoil) already has the Dead HIlls - it's on some maps of Antonica, although the zone has never been opened. Further, the Dead Hills were already the Dead Hills in EQOA, which is the Age of Enlightenment, some 500yrs BEFORE the Age of Turmoil.

While I'd normally write this off as "events in one game aren't canon in another unless specified as such," over in the lore forums we have gotten references to EQOA and the Dead Hills before. When the first images of the TSO Shadow Men were posted, there was some discussion about them looking similar to the Jal'Raeth in EQOA's Dead Hills, and Kaitheel was kind enough to find us some screenshots for comparison. Not definitive, but it did hint that the Jal'Raith were either the Shadow Men or of Rodcet's race or both. Which would mean that the Dead Hills in the Age of Enlightenment is valid lore to EQ2.

On the other hand, Vhalen also mentioned once that Kyle Bayle was a figure during the Age of Turmoil. This, combined with the current quest lore, invalidates the Dead Hills in EQOA as valid to EQ2.

I see two possible solutions here.

If Kyle Bayle had founded New Qeynos early in the Age of Enlightenment or at the end of the Lost Age, the Dead Hills connection make more sense. New Qeynos was taken by the Void, possibly as a sort of last bolthole as they were being driven off Norrath. They set up some field to make the land deadly to any living being (a story in Maj'Dul talks about this effect of the Dead Hills), laid low, and were eventually forgotten there.

On the other hand, if Kyle is from the Age of Turmoil, then instead of setting up his colony in the area which later became the Dead Hills, I'd think he'd have set it up somewhere near the Dead Hills. No one goes there in EQLive, and the dangerous immortal race who dwelt there could have been forgotten. So he sets up there with the Dead Hills as a border and natural protection for his colony, the colony catches the attention of the Jal'Raith/Shadow Men, and is quickly taken by them. Or given to them by Kyle himself...

Or we just ignore the existence of the Dead Hills before the Age of Turmoil. Which... isn't nearly so appealing to me.

I do think that whichever way it goes, Kyle's colony was lost to the Void. Besides his name on the roster in the Obelisk of Lost Souls, he talks about hearing the call of his Master (probably Theer). This indicates he is not only a valued knowledge vessel for the Void, but a willing participant in their plans.

Good catch! I appreciate the attention to detail

The fact is, I wrote that sentence for Antonia a little too fast. Yes, the Dead Hills were already there and Kyle Bayle carved out a chunk of them to create his doomed kingdom. This was early in the age of Turmoil just as Vhalen had indicated. I'll fix up that last sentence so it matches the timeline, and you'll get to hear more of his story eventually.

He founded his colony IN the Dead Hills? No wonder they were doomed!

But now I'm curious. Did he manage to find some way to dispell or shield the colony from the lifedraining effects talked about in the Tale of Mal'Akht and experienced in EQOA? Or had the lifedrain of the land weakened or dissipated by Kyle's time? Or was it only portions of the Dead Hills that had this effect?

Or did he build in the midst of the lifedraining land and have a really, really short reign?

As Murrar is a modern-day (Age of Destiny) Kerra and Kyle is a human ghost from the Age of Turmoil, I doubt they're the same person.

Besides, when you kill Murrar you see the ghost of Kyle run off.

I don't think there's ever been a case of possession by a Void entity where the possessed was freed without being killed, is there? Possession by another Norrathian entity might be argued - the researcher guy for Strange Black Rock returns after being killed, and reacts differently to those who killed him. But we know from the Obelisk of Lost Souls that the Void entities actuallly eat souls. So I doubt there's anything of Murrar left to save.

Just finished the Freeport side of the story and I want MORE!! My little Arasai now has a burning desire to rip Tallen limb from limb, so where did she/he go? What is next?

By the abruptness, I am just going to presume that GU55 will continue the story

That is supposed to be GU 55. I think they are just teasing us. Just like the void. It will be nice to see where they take all of this though.

what i find interesting. is the quest in qeynos actualy reconises me as a necromancer. as i am able to ask the NPC in crows if they are a necromancer as well when they give us the wrath potion. yet its never once mentiond during the rest of the quest that im from freeport at all.

Well the quest giver gives that option and if you take it she gets all mad. lol She isnt cool enough to be a necro. Just an alchemist. IMO.

I finally got round to testing the 2 quests on non-aligned characters and I don't think either are doable as a solo quest unless you have a minimum level. For the Qeynos side you cannot get in to see the fae princess unless you are at least level 60 with an invis, due to the static level 70 heroic standing at her door. Getting to talk to Murrar could also be a problem for small races as the jump onto the bridge parapet is very tricky and this is the only way past the level 65 heroic guard that I could find. Hugging the wall along the bridge isn't far enough away to keep you out of his agro. Somebody suggested the tinkered jumping item for this which is available from level 12 but I haven't tested how viable that is. On the Freeport side you cannot get into the Academy unless you are at least level 40 with an invis, due to the static level 50 heroic guards on the doors. There is a safe path up past the first pair, but the path that gives you maximum distance from each of the second pair is within agro range of both. And even if you could pass those the third pair are even closer to the path you'd need to take. As it stands it seems the only way low level characters can complete either quest without faction is if they have friends to move the guards or summon you past them. Personally I'd like to see this sort of issue fixed permanently by removing the high level static NPCs at the entrances to areas that are used for quests needed by non factioned characters. Freeport Academy is used in various quests that Qeynos toons do and it's been a problem for some time. I don't mind it being difficult to get into places like this but I do mind it being completely impossible without help due to static placements. At least make these high level guards move a bit so that with a bit of care and patience you have a chance to slip through and get to where you need to go. And I think Windslasher now owes my toons for a few repair bills after spending some time testing this

@ Windslasher - After Test Patch 12/02/09:

You still get the message that you (or the Queen) has killed Murrar Shar. The Queen laters speaks about his breathing being faint and that she wants to bring him to the temple of life, but the kill message is kind of confusing.

During the quest we now get both books in the inventory. But the second one which sticks with us unfort. can't be placed or read.

Status works as intended.

Loving to see the Thexians take over plan work and wish I could get one of those weapons...

Purr~

PS: The Thexians seem to be the bred to attack first and remember later that they are grey and should NOT attack. Even with invis. characters to whom they are grey. Which can kill even a lvl 80 mage if they each get in a good whack before resetting to the appropriate grey behavior.

Just a tip for anyone doing the Qeynos side of the quest: if you're having trouble finding Librarian Brinn during the quest, try looking behind the tavern. I /bugged his disappearance, since I watched other players hail him while I could not see him, and there is no clue that his whereabouts may have changed.
