I just noticed the other day that there is a Quellthulian Geomancer at the (unfinished) Zek spire. He doesn't respond to hails. Geomancy is suppose to be one of the great magics that was discovered, and lost, by the Combine Empire. It is suppose to be responsable for all of the Combine's great works including the Combine Spire system.

It is a bit disturbing to see someone with the title "geomancer" even if they are working on another spire system. Does this mean that the Quellthulians have successfully rediscovered the lost magic of geomancy? Is this a grandious title taken on without the full knowledge of an actual geomancer? Honestly, does anyone know what that NPC is there for?

Geomancers, cryomancers, and probably a couple other -mancers that I don't know about, are really just put around the spires to look like a construction crew, they don't serve any real purpose. In this case, I doubt that these geomancers are supposed to have any sort of association to the magic that created the Combine Spires, I think it's just supposed to mean the more generic title of 'earth mage'.

We all know we're not going to get any explanation behind thier job and background. They're just NPCs for an event.

Agreed.

For instance, the cryomancer is there in Everfrost to keep the ice floe stable as the spire is sitting on top of it after all. Others have the similiar function: keeping the area stable and safe for the spires.

There's also the luminmancer (something like that) guarding the spires in LP. I'm guessing we'll see more of these guys in odus.
