I have both Tailor and Carpenter so this is not a carpenter flaming.

The change on test to increase backpack size to equal strong box size for the level will ruin carpenters. Most of my carpenter sales come from strongboxes of all sizes. People need them for storage in bank and those that have extra STR for carrying around. At least currently on live there is a tradeoff for more slots and weight vs fewer slots with weight reducing. My carpenter does a small amount of furniture and sales chests but not enough to keep it a viable money maker if he doesn't have strong boxes.

Tailors have clothing that everybody needs to suppliment thier backpack sales.

There is a side consequence to this change. Wood nodes are the second least harvested node (maybe tied with traps) behind bushes. If this change goes live traps will shoot up to the same need as ore nodes and wood will fall to or below the need of bushes.

So again I say PLEASE support proposition 2 and say NO on increased backpack sizes.

Thank you.

As someone with a carpenter and tailor also, I say you're crazy.

I'm still not sure that backpacks should be the same size as strong boxes, but I do know with things the way they are now, tailors have an extremely limited market for backpacks compared to strong boxes.

Another carpenter and tailor here, and I agree with the above two posters.

I'm also carpenter and tailor and I think the same.

I don't sell a single strongbox as they are sold nearly at crafting cost on my server. Hpuse items sell way better

As a carpenter without a tailor, I have to say that boxes are a stable source of income... but it's barely any income. I don't bother making them at all anymore. They sell for at-cost or maybe 20% more on a busy day. Not worth it, sadly.

OK> I can take a hint. or was it a sledgehammer lol?

I guess I have to go back and rethink my selling strategy.

Thank you all for your feedback.

Strongboxes go for cost on many servers. Not sure how that's your biggest seller. On Butcherblock, there are a lot of carpenter items that go for 4-5 times cost on a routine basis. Meanwhile Tailors really only have mastercrafted armor and backpacks, and the market for both is minimal at this stage.

However, before that they'd been going nearly at cost for a very long time. Same for the bristled leather backpacks at the moment, oddly enough. So, I don't really see this changing honestly. Most people will likely continue to buy whichever is cheaper. That said, I'd definietly take a look at what other things are going for. There's a good bit of carpenter stuff that only goes at, or slightly above, cost - but there's also a nice bit of things that sell for a larger profit (without being widly expensive, either). What items there's a hole on the market for of course changes often, so you do have to keep an eye out. As a carpenter there's a good bit of room for steady income, though.

I think Gerak should be given a pat on the back.

Gerak posted something here and was given information that lead to a different way of looking at the situation by some nice posters. He/she then said he would go back to looking at the way he did business. What a polite way to discuss this! I love seeing things resolved with a friendly handshake

As someone else has posted, this is already being discussed and Domino has commented on the change here. Please direct any further input to that thread.
