Well, been a long time eq2 player since launch and am proud to say that I never once had a problem till now, long story short is this, been gone for almost two yrs from game, came back with different pc, have tried it with fresh installs on vista 32bit, and xp 64bit, and the problem remains the same...leading me to believe it is hardware related. I would think the sound would be to blame. Running up to date drivers for everything. Any idea's..? Please help!

Game hard locks, cntrl alt del, does nothing, have to power down manually just to get out of game and back into windows.

When it freezes it makes a repeating loud noise and bam stuck in whatever frame it was in...

OS Name Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional x64 EditionVersion 5.2.3790 Service Pack 2 Build 3790Other OS Description Not AvailableOS Manufacturer Microsoft CorporationActivation Status Activation Pending (27 days remaining)System Name 11-2009System Manufacturer EVGA__System Model 122-YW-E173System Type x64-based PCProcessor EM64T Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10 GenuineIntel ~3000 MhzProcessor EM64T Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10 GenuineIntel ~3000 MhzBIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 4/3/2009SMBIOS Version 2.5Windows Directory C:WINDOWSSystem Directory C:WINDOWSsystem32Boot Device DeviceHarddiskVolume1Locale United StatesHardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.2.3790.3959 (srv03_sp2_rtm.070216-1710)"User Name 11-2009AdministratorTime Zone Central Standard TimeTotal Physical Memory 2,046.32 MBAvailable Physical Memory 1.52 GBTotal Virtual Memory 4.87 GBAvailable Virtual Memory 4.52 GBPage File Space 3.00 GBPage File C:pagefile.sys

Greetings,

You mention that you think this is a problem with the sound hardware. Have you tried disabling that sound hardware through the control panel? That option should be located in the System options section under the Device Manager. You can then right click and select disable on your sound hardware. Then start the game again and that should tell us whether or not the sound hardware is causing the crash. You can re-enable it later by right clicking on the same icon.

Well, I just logged around 2 hrs or so I guess, and no issues with the sound turned off. However, do you think it is the intel HD Audio intergrated that would cause such as a fuss in the first place. Settings are on 64 sounds, miles sound 2d, nothing special. I have a Audigy 2ZS just laying here, do you think it would be ok, I never had any issues with it in the past however.

Thanks...

but it has been fresh installs, only installed the drivers one time...

I was getting this issue myself, thought it was related to the DirectX issue that I was also having, as sometimes it would crash to desktop with the error.

I tried a number of things to fix or work around it and disabling sound was the next on my list, (there is earlier mention in the forums that voice/sound was crashing some people.)

But, after disabling DEP for EQ2, removing latest version drivers for my video card and replacing with a very early version, and finally playing with hardward acceleration, (reducing it,) the crashes stopped and I have been using sound and voice all the time. There were no updates at the time from my last crash to no more crashes, so I'm pretty confident that it was a conflict in my system.

Incidentally, reducing hardware acceleration can cause other issues, but at the same time it can aid in isolating the conflict.

At the risk of sounding like Daniel, if you've updated the Nvidia drivers to one of the 19x.xx versions, you would do well to completely remove these drivers and install the 186.xx version.

I hope you find this helpful,

BD
