Having a ranger alt getting close to the top of his game, I checked the epic quest with a lot of expectation. Alas, it didn't last long: requesting lvl 80 toons to go back to newbie zones and grow their tradeskills is just silly.

And yet, I love long questlines and I've done a lot of HQ's with pleasure. But I turned down the Raincaller precisely because I didn't want to spend hours chopping wood. If it was a tradeskill quest, that would make sense. For a weapon, it doesn't.

The same is true for the Irontoe faction: does SoE really expect us to go back to Butcherblock at 80 and try to raise that faction ? One would think that raising Skleross and Synod Reet factions is sufficient a task.

That doesn't seem very equitable towards the other classes, either. Having a myth'ed necro and zerker, they didn't have to bother about tradeskill or newbie zones.

If ya don't like it, don't do it. There are also alot of quests that have your harvest. Some classes had to speak dragon and had to go back and do To Speak as a Dragon. Be lucky you did not have to do that.

Speaking of the Epic, some friends of mine are going to try and get me leveled so I can start my epic run any suggestions on how to get through the various part of it from those of you who have gotten yours would be appreciated. especially the parts where you have can't be grouped to see a mob that appears to need to have at least a duo to handle(at least that from what I'm reading in EQ2 wiki.)

in others words any helpful tactics to get through this woudl be appreciated. I hope to be 80 soon with my Raincaller Bow with luck by the end of the month.

Just be glad you aren't a mystic, they need foresting, gather, and mining up and have to find special nodes to harvest that aren't always up. Anyway, I think SOE is expecting that everyone likes tradeskilling and harvesting and that they will be leveling those skill along with their main piercing/slashing/ordination/ministration/defense/etc. Which is kinda stupid. I love leveling, I hate harvesting, and tradeskilling is alright. I think they expect too much, but they are also trying to get people to experience more of the game that some may not want to. Just my opinion /shrug

I'm thinking one can make a case that since a Ranger is only as good as his bow, and using a bow with skill could mean the need to understand the bow, then it follows that knowing how to MAKE a bow would also be part of mastering your craft. An epic version of a weapon could be considered mastery. Hence the need to harvest wood.

I'm going to have a harder time making the above flow work for the other epics, but we can give it a try

I finally overcame my reluctance and started working on the prerequisites. It wasn't as bad as it first looked.

Foresting skills: It took me about 3 hours, spread on several sessions, to increase my skills from near 0 to the 245 required. I'd advise temporarily putting 5 AA points on the 'Ample Harvest' ability in the Shadow Tree to speed things up a bit (gives 15% chance to harvest the same node twice). Also read http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Wood_Nodes.

Irontoe faction: Just do the 'A Tale of Two Towers' quest starting in Butcherblock and leading into Kaladim. At 80 it's done in a jiffy. Will give the 10K faction required.

Hope that helps.

or you can just do the honor and service HQ that involves killing some level 15 orcs, takes almost no time at all, espically since the stuff doesn't have PH any more as far as I know

Our epic quest is really easy, I betrayed and did my epic in about 12 hours total, and this was in a trio.
