Returning player and was wondering if zerker is still the best tank class for solo play...

Shadowknight is best I would say (harm touch, lifetaps, self heal..), followed by zerker then paladin then guardian.

I would say no a zerker will not solo as good as a paladin. Paladin wards and heals are better on the tougher fights. Sk is the best soloer of the figher arch-type.

Probably because they make it easier on the healers, which are hard to find even once you get to level 80. With a Pally as a tank a group can get away without even needing a healer, or just one.

Zerker isn't bad, but in their effort to OP the SK to draw in fans of other games there was some bleed-over to the Pally's AAs as well. Crusaders are going to be easier to solo. IDK, you may not be able to take as large a group as a pally, maybe, but your survival is more of a guarantee and your downtime will be less.

Thanks for the great responses, always did like the EQ community.

Well sounds like I pull the pally out of moth balls or maybe best to start a new one and get to know him again.

I have not bought the shadow expansion yet...do I need to right away for any benfits early on or can I level awhile then get it????

Starting at level 20+, a boxed copy of TSO (which is not the same as the SOE download version) comes will a free bear mount (who's speed scales up as you level). Also while there are some general TSO AA choices available, the really good ones don't become available until you have 60+ AA. Once you reach that point, I'd personally considering having TSO a must.

TSO gives you access to the Mara crafting mission and token content once you hit 50th crafter. The adventuring overland zone of Moors is for upper 70's characters. And though the new TSO heroic dungeons can scale as low as 50th level, they tend to not scale down very well. For people who are used to EOF difficulty, these zones will be a rude awakening. Basically while RoK really kicked it up a notch in difficulty from EOF, TSO did the same thing when compared to RoK.

Take a look at the Paladin's Shadows Tree on-line, and use that to determine when to buy TSO. You aren't missing anything until either level 70 or you reach enough AA that you could benefit from the Shadows Tree (as someone said, this usually doesn't come around till you've got 60AA or so). There aren't many groups doing the scaled TSO zones since half the group needs to be mentoring to clear them at that level.

As for buying the boxed copy, don't worry about it. There are a lot of players (my self included) who don't like the look of the bear mount, and you can easily use Refer-A-Friend on your self for a free mount (you have to pay 1 month on the new acct, but you get 1mo credited to the original acct so there's really no cost). Heck, I did it twice and got both R-A-F mounts. You don't have to level these mounts, they start at their full 50 or 55% speed. They both look awsome, IMHO, and you see a lot fewer players on the Armored Pinto than bears (Saryn Death Charger is a different story). I also consider any money not going to GameStop a plus.
