Why do so many people keep telling me that Shield of Faith pwns choker damage?

The bloodthirsty choker does focus damage, not arcane damage. There is no benefit to casting Shield of Faith, since this only wards against arcane damage.

Am I missing something here?

Check again, get someone with a choker and go find a training dummy and throw up shield of faith, it will soak up the damage. Now it won't heal damage they've already taken, but it should prevent additional choker damage from going through.

I forgot to add, focus damage is considered to be arcane.

Hmm, I might not be noticing it, but it seems my Shield of Faith ward does not go down during combat. Could it be that my Repent is absorbing the damage first, and that is why I don't notice it?

Okay, I pulled my parse from Fitzfangle in NHT last night. The first named in NHT does not do any arcane damage. I had 2 choker wearers in the group, which were the MT and an illy.

TYPE EXT DPS HITS CRIT % All 766.29 125 59% Repent 289.69 28 32% Shield of Faith 173.34 19 0% Mark of Nobility 65.39 36 100% Reverence 59.55 17 100% Hateshield 55.52 12 0% Combat Glory 45.19 6 100% Supplicant's Prayer 41.10 2 100% Word of Redemption 27.43 3 100% Greater Reflexive Restoration 6.14 1 0% Involuntary Cure 2.94 1 100%

Sure enough, Shield of Faith did a huge chunk of the healing. Thanks for the suggestion, Seiffil!

Shield of Faith provides a separate regenerating ward for each person in the group , so the number in the maintained spell window is only showing the state of the ward on you - which is why you don't see it go down when group members are using it up as a result of chokers.

I think focus damage can be any damage type , but it happens to be arcane in the case of the choker.

This is what was confusing me. The ward that shows up in the maintained effects window is my individual ward against arcane damage. It is not going down because I am not taking arcane damage. However, each individual in group is getting a similar ward, and these regenerating wards are healing A LOT of damage on them.

This is unlike the Hate Shield ward, which I see in my effects window for each individual that has such a ward. It is also unlike the group reactive we have, where a shared reactive pool is shown in the maintained effects window for the group.

Here's a better idea: use ACT.

http://advancedcombattracker.com/

See the third post in this thread, one of the posts just ahead of yours. It was already tested and confirmed using ACT.
