I am running Vista 32bit, and I have been plating EQ2 on this machine for about a year. I left the game for about 6 months and now that I'm back every time I launch the game it patches cards.rcc.

I have all the vista access controls set, I have run as admin, I have it set to run in XP SP2 mode, I have deleted the file, and I have even moved EQ2 out of the Program Files folder. Nothing works. Every time I launch, I have to sit for 15-20 minutes while the same file patches.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Tried a Full file scan form the launcher? I know it may mean another 15-20min update, but if it's the last time you have to endure it, it'll be worth while.

I tried a full scan, no luck. So I uninstalled EQ2 and wiped all the files, did a defrag, and reinstalled using my Desert of Flames discs. Repatching the whole game takes an eterinty. And I got in game. So I camped and relaunched and it seems to be patching cards.rcc again.

I'm about to pull my hair out. I'm hoping that maybe the next launch will fix it.

OK, update. Now it seems to be repatching everfrost.vpk and the cards.rcc.

I'm stumped?!?!

A few things to check:

First, when was the last time you ran a virus scan?

Second, are you using virus detection / firewall software? (There have been a number of issues caused by some security packages, and the easiest check is to turn them off before running EQ2.)

Third, check the location of the files you mentioned, either use the windows search function or windows explorer.

The files should be in the following locations (for WinXP, but I think the directory/file structure is similar for Vista) :

C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest IILegendsOfNorrathcards.rcc

C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest IIpakseverfrost.vpk

If you use windows search function it will tell you where the files are, if they exsist.

See how you go with these and post your findings.

Greetings,

I understand that you are running as administrator, but how are you doing so? Setting it through the compatibility menu wont be sufficient in some cases. You will sometimes need to right click on the launch icon and select 'run as administrator' to launch the game.

If the problem persists at that point then you might wand to delete your local cards.rcc file so that the client wont get blocked from patching it. That should work around the problem

I still get the same results. And I have deleted the cards.rcc file, it takes a little longer to patch, but it still needs to patch it the next time I launch the game.

Any other ideas. So far I think the only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling Vista.

ok, well I didn't do anything for the last couple of days. I launched it today, and it patched the files as usual.

Then, I logged off for a while, and relaunched it again. Now it seems to be working fine.

I'm stumped, but thanks anyways.
