My night last night was a blast! My problems started this past sunday out of know where, I was on my warlock in a DD group and bam my graphics go crazy, colors start going bezerk, almost like a mosaic of colors and such flashing almost like the game was still running in the back ground i just couldn't make out any image. So I rebooted the pc and chalked it up to just bad luck, then rejoined the group and bam like 5 min later it does the same thing. So I reboot yet again and rejoin and bam a few min later it does it again. This time around I am really upset and decide to log into a diffrent toon and play the game. So I logg into a diffrent toon and play the game for a few hours without any problems...and think humm thats strange. Tuesday comes along and we are getting ready to pull the named in ToMc and bam it happens to me again. So I reboot and log back in rejoin the raid and play the rest of the night without any problems. The next day comes along and i am in a group in EA and it happens to me again (mind you it always seems to happen with i am on warlock) someone in group said they had the same card I do (8800 GTX 768MB) and they had the same problem. Hwoever once they updated the drivers the problem went away. So I thought oh ok i will do that before thursdays raid and i shoudl be fine. So I play the game the rest of the night with no problems running all over the place changing in and out of diffrent toons and zones. So last night comes along and before raid i update the GPU drivers and log into game and start to call home and bam the game does the same thing. So I reboot and log back in and with in 30 secs it does the same thing. I reboot yet again and now i can't even get the XP log in screen to appear. After a few more reboots i get logged back into XP and the game and with in a min or two it does it to me again. So I do a system restore thinking man that new driver really made things worse. Before last night the only time i had problems was in game on my warlock now its starting to do it to me even while i am sitting at desktop. Well after a while I was able to get back to desktop and I check my chipset driver and BIOS version and noticed there is a new bios version that was released this week. So I flash the bios and reboot log into game and it does it to me again , so I reboot update graphics drivers and reboot log into the game and it seems to be fine. I leave the game logged in for @ 45+ min and zone a few times, cast a few spells, buffs run around ect...trying to get it to do the samething and it seems to be fine. Then i open IE on my 2nd monitor and with in a few secs I get the " EQ2 has encountered a error and must shut down" I click ok and it drops me to desk top. By this time its after 11pm and I have beem messing with this crap for the most part since @ 6:45pm so i just shut the pc down and go to bed. It does not seem to be a overheat issue of any sort because the game ran fine for almost a hour without any problems, and has run fine for the most part all week. Today when i get home i plan on trying to reproduce the problem i got late last night "EQ2 has encountered a error and must shut down" when i opened IE Anyone else having any issues like this, up until this problem I could not tell you the last time i ever had a problem with the game. I normally play 4 or 5 days a week a few hours each day and never have any major problems so not sure how this came about out of know where.

The only updates I did around the time this started to happen (10-25-09 was the 1st time it happend) was update ACT, fairly sure i remember a windows update last week or weekend....thats it. And it seems strange that it only seems to happen with I am on my Warlock, I also play my Pally, Warden, Ranger all the time and have not had the same thing not sure if that is good luck or what.

Hi, I noticed at one stage you said you got an error: "EQ2 has encountered a error and must shut down".

Did you notice what the error was?

I've been having similar issues, (screen goes blank; no k/b or mouse intervention possible,) but I believe mine is related to the DirectX issues that many other people have been experiencing.

Also, some info that might help the techs when they get to you: OS; OS version; (you already mentioned your graphics card); graphics driver version; and any crash log info you might have, (drwatson32 gives some reasonably good info. if you're an XP user. Or, if you know how to access it, I believe eq2 has its own crashlog.)

First look for your EverQuest II directory. You can find the default directory in: C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II2. Click on MY COMPUTER and then proceed into local disk C:3. Navigate your way to the default directory, or your chosen installation directory.4. Next look for any files explained above and delete them. 5. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher. If deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.

Still, I think performing steps like these will only prolong the amount of time that the graphics card has left.

I've reverted back to the 186 version of the drivers and gonna see how that goes. My fans are working and everything seems to be working on the vid card but if this doesn't work, you may be right bout the card getting ready to fail. I've had it for quite some time so it's my luck that this is prob the case LOL. anyways, thanks a ton for the reply tho.

regards,

Balel

Thanks for the replys so far. Have not had a chance to try any of the changes to the EQ2 files yet. I got home today and tried a few more things but my problem just keeps happening more now than ever.

I was able to log into my desktop and was searching the net for information and things seemed to be fine but then after about 20+ min it happend again. 1st there was a flicker on both my monitors and then it just started to cycle through colors and eventually i couldn't do anything other than reboot the pc. Before it is finished with the reboot (about before it gets to the windows log in screen) the graphics go crazy again bunch of white dash's and lines across the screen then all kinds of colors.

I did notice when I was in windows under device manager that I had something showing up as other device with a yellow ? on it and under that was PCI device with a yellow ?. Once i right clicked on that and picked properties it said something about like:

PCI Slot 7 (pci bus 2, device 0, function 0)

This device is not configured corretly (code 1)

I have never seen that before so i assume that it has something to do with my problem. Does this mean anything to anyone?

Seeing how this is looking more and more like it is my GPU (which really sucks because its only like 2yrs old and cost $550 when it 1st came out --------->my 1st Nvidia card ever, always had AIT in the past, hell my old x800 ATI which is about 6 or 7 years old still runs fine on my other pc<-------------) what would be a good Nvidia card to replace my 8800 GTX? I run duel monitors and play EQ2 all the time so want something really nice but it can't cost a $100000 dollars wife is going to have a heart attack when I tell her i might need a new video card...sigh

Ah the venerable 8800 GTX (which I have one of that I put to rest some time ago) built on the G80 core can run extrodinarily hot on the stock heatsink fan, I replaced mine with an aftermarket cooler shortly after I got it. From what you are describing I deffintatly believe it to be component failure somewhere on the card, be it the GPU core itself, the memory or a blown/failing capacitor somewhere on the PCB. My best suggestion would be to replace it because it will only get worse. Right now the GTX 260 core 216 (I don't believe anyone sells the old version anymore) or the GTX 275 would be great bang for the buck, or a HD 5850 if you want to go for a brand new series of video card that will last you a very long time. All of these are capable of running multiple monitors and are reasonably priced.

Well it seems every where I go folks are recommending the AMD 5850 card as the card of choice right now. So think I am leaning that way, while I am at it I would also like to upgrade my CPU.
Well, you were right, my 8800 gtx died it seems. On booting up my pc now all I get is vertical lines on the screen, and then when windows finally boots up it's just a bunch of junk. Cant even make any sense of the stuff on the screen at all. So i've ordered myself an ati hd 4870 which should be in today. the only thing is when I install this new card and boot up is it gonna be a major problem for me since I was unable to uninstall the drivers and stuff for the nvidia card before it went out? or will i be able to see well enough to uninstall all that before I install the drivers for the new ATI card. I sure hope this goes painlessly as possible.

regards,

Balel

You should be able to see Windows as normal, but Windows will notify you that you have new hardware and will open a hardware setup wizard.

Alternately, boot in Safe Mode, remove old graphics drivers (a program like Driver Sweeper is good for this,) restart your system, then load the new drivers. The hardware setup wizard will still come up. Either way you can choose to use the wizard, or cancel it and install the drivers from the graphics card CD.

Should be pretty painless, but if you need more help just ask.

Well I wanted to give a update on my problem. Sadly I am still waiting on my new card, everyone on earth seems to be out of stock!! I really want that card so what I have decided to do is buy a diffrent card to hold me over for now until my preffered card comes in. Then when it does I will use the hold over card to upgrade my wife's pc and slap in the nice card into my pc hehe

Now does anyone have a suggestion on a decent card that I can buy for now to hold me over that is not crazy expensive but will work with EQ2 and look ok?? Really want to try and stay between lets say $100 to $150'ish on this hold over card.

Any suggestions??
