Yeah, new database is the fail.... /meh

cant say i expected more....

It was probably a 10 year old used database, which was better then our 15 year old used database, so they called it "new"

You know like trading in your 1976 POS datsun for that shinynew 1989 Nissan? Kinda like that, cept with databases

Lagafen can get pretty laggy, but it is hard to tell exactly how annoying it is since my game still crashes far too often with the LU53 "Out of Memory" errors.

Some of my PVP Death Streak is a result of "Critical Error", "Out of Memory", "Would You Like To Tell Microsoft What The Heck You Think Were Doing, Noob?" messages...

Lag is caused by Meny things. and in a game like this about 80% of lag is your own computer.

the rest is the other people around you. a network is only as strong as it's weakest point. so if you have some one with a Bad connection to the server you experence some of his/her bad connection. any one who knows networking knows this.

othe causes for lag. is video card. i upgraded my video card about 6 months ago. i was one of the people always yelling about lag. then changed my video card. it was like night and day. also your system Memory having at least 2 gigs is recomended and helps alot.

now the rest. high trafic. High trafic areas will be laggy. no getting around it. even the best of servers will lag.

Some things you can do to help lag on your Computer: Turn you Graphic settings down in game. if you Video Card has less to do it will do more in less time, turn other programs on in the background. (ex File sharing programs, IM, etc) these programs use memory and cpu processes. as well as the File sharing programs use bandwith from your internet connection even if it is on a defferent computer. the upload from file sharing programs can and will cause alot of lag in game.

I hope this helps you figure out whare the lag you are getting is coming from. and i know "i don't know what i am talking about. SOE is to blame, i am with out blame for any lag becouse i am uber" yah i don't think so. yes SOE is to blame for some of the lag. but please look to your own system to see whare some of the lag is coming from. you may find that it is all or mostly in your system. and also find that thare are some forms of lag that you just can't get rid of

thanks for listening

Srafa

Honestly for me the first couple days the lag on Naggy was painful...especially playing my swash, where there was a half second sometimes on button lag and people would be out of range by the time I hit a CA. Positional attacks were a joke to expect to fire much less land, and I died a few times after the connection just flipped me the bird and locked my computer solid for a minute or three.

But after a while I noticed the lag isn't quite as bad as the first couple days as the Venekor people finally get all that pent up pvp energy out and life returns to normal. I still don't bother hoping for a decent connection in TG...but so long as I don't lag out so badly I can't raid, I'm a happy quasi-bluebie.

Sorry dev I know you meant well but tg is the worst place in all of rok for lag. I didnt like the docks for targeting because of all the npcs. In raid on raid I turn off all names except for target. Before I went to no smooth fonts I found it helpful to make a chat box with nothing in it and leave that up during fights. Go to extreme performance before you head up to tg for sure. Make a couple different profiles. 1 for raid, 1 for raid pvp and 1 for running around doing instances and such. Its super easy to make a profile.

Cuts my zoning time to TG (wizzie ports) from about 3-4 minutes (serious here) down to just under 30 seconds. I had a computer-saavy friend explain it to me once and I don't remember all the details, but I think he called it windowing, basically I tihnk it worked like this:As you're running into TG, the client renders the outside of all the buildings and any NPCs/objects that are outside the buildings, then as you get closer to the buildings, it starts to render the items inside. So basically if your HDDs are slow (like mine ) then you spend forever loading TG, you practically lock-up for 5-10 seconds at the base of the ramp, then slowly make your way up the ramp at 3-4 frames, but once you've been there for a while, you've already loaded everything so the 'lag' goes away. Thing is there are so many NPCs and other players in TG, its quite normal for me to be killed by a group that i didnt even know was there, or that finally rendered just as Im on top of them. He who holds TG usually wins because they're attacking the enemy before the enemy even knows that they're there, and while the enemy is loading TG and slowed to 3 FPS, you start killing them off.

Anyone know of a way that you can tell EQ2 to load TG into memory as soon as you zone in? Sure it'll increase zone times, but atleast then you'd be able to walk into TG without being dead and not knowing about it for 15 seconds.
