Hello,

I'm running a system with a SSD and HDD, with Windows and my programs installed on the SSD to make the system more responsive. I would like to avoid unneccesary wear and tear on the SSD by moving the location where EQ2 saves the log files to a specified directory on the HDD. I haven't been able to find an in-game setting. I also tried to make a shortcut from a HDD directory in the EQ2 log directory to try and trick EQ2 into saving to the HDD, but this didn't work.

Is there a way I can get the log files to be saved to a specified directory rather than default?

Regards,

Sapph

Greetings,

That might be possible with some kind of UI mod, but I don't think you can change that location with the standard game options. I even searched through the standard ini files and couldn't find a way to do it there either.

I just keep the OS on that drive

Well if you are using Vista/Win7, you can do the following:

1. Create a log folder in your HDD, eg "D:EQ2logs"

2. Delete the log folder in your EQ2 installation in your SSD (say its located at C:Program Files (x86)SonyEverQuest II)

3. Run a command prompt with administrative rights.

4. input the following "mklink /D "C:Program Files (x86)SonyEverQuest IIlogs" "D:EQ2logs"

And there you have it.

I followed those instructions and it certainly appears to be working. I'm probably going to end up using this trick for other programs that have temporary file locations or log files.

I think the ideal solution would be a file system that examines the type of file being saved and automatically assignes that file to either the SSD or HDD. Executables, libraries, etc. on the SSD and any kind of data, media or log files on the HDD seamlessly without the user even having to do much. Maybe Windows 8 will have some kind of feature like that.

i know this is an older topic, but are there any updates on this issue? would love to be able to store the logs on a different partition.

PS: running XP, where NTFS links dont work.

Just used this method, and hopefully it proves to solve the issue i was having with the log file on my SSD.
