That's right, 27 hours of attempting to redownload the game after deciding to come back. 27 hours of paying for the game, and not being able to use it. Patcher it at about 5%, and says 10 hours left.

Before you ask, yes I have my ports forwarded properly. Checked that 3 times.

Yes, I'm running the patcher as an admin.

I've turned off my av, and aside from this window there's nothing else accessing the net.

I'm on a high speed connection, alone, and usually hit around 6mbs down.

What am I missing here? Has anyone considered doing this p2p style as opposed to the patcher?

Help?

Wow....

A few things to be sure of... I know that you said that you did many of them, but just in case. Turn off AV/firewall program. Be sure that your system can handle the game as well www.systemrequirementslab.com can help you determine that.

Also, if you are using Vista/windows 7, you nee dto be running it as admin...

If you need to close the patcher, it should remember where it was when you closed it as well. It may look like it is starting over, but it shouldn't be.

Perhaps posting a tracert may help or a dxdiag for the techies to get a better idea of what is happening.

58 hours in. Patcher says 9 hours left. I'll check it again when I get home from work.

At this point I think morbid curiosity is keeping me going more than a desire to play.

It took me a few days to play, though not as long as you. I eventually did get the game running and have been playing for about a year. Restart it whenever it seems to be frozen. You don't lose anything, and for reasons I cannot fathom, the programmers did not write it so that it would be smart enough to restart itself if it got stuck.

Most people get this down in a few hours so there is obviously a problem with your system/connection. In order for anyone to try and diagnose what that is you need to post the details of the error messages along with the various system and error log details requested in the sticky threads at the top of the forum.

The launcher doesn't seem to check whether it still has a connection if it is lost, and won't try to regain it. Your problem seems to be your internet losing connection all the time, long enough to stall the download at least (which may only be a few seconds). Try downloading a large file (2gb+) directly from somewhere (doesn't matter where or which file). I think you'll notice that it's going to stop after a while when the download loses the connection.

I had similar woes when starting the game first time last month.

There were multiple updates it seems, as after waiting the initial ~20hrs download, (I watched excitedly as the last few seconds counted down,) the timer restarted and the position marker returned to zero, BUT this time it said "980hrs left"!

A couple of hours later it said "80hrs left". So I figure it's not that good an indication of how long it will take.

I emailed support and was told that all the updates amount to about 12GBytes. I'm using a 512Kbit/sec connection, so that's:

12GB/512Kb (seconds) = 12000000KB/64KB = 187500seconds = just over 52hours of update before I could even see the opening screen!

In the middle of this we had a blackout! (AAARGH!)

But I got there.

Then there is the fun of the DirectX and memory leak issues, of which they haven't solved yet, but I have work arounds.

So don't be discouraged. I choose to view it as a real life quest, and I get warm fuzzy feelings every time I level up, it's like a real world DING! (OK so I need a life!)

I strongly agree with the P2P idea, or something like it. Some one suggested if you have a friend with the game, use a memory stick to at least copy the large data libraries and such. Otherwise, approach you local game store and see if they can set up something in the way of a 'large update agreement' with SOE. The few dollars for an update CD far outways the frustration users experience when faced with Giga bytes of download time. Unfortunately for me, the game wasn't popular enough in Australia and I think I got the last available copy here, and the game stores dont even catalogue SOE products anymore.

With a 512kb connection it should take around 6.5 hours to download.

12GB * 1sec/512kb = 23437.5 seconds.

23437.5 seconds * 1hour/3600sec = 6.5104 hours

If you are experiencing an extremely long download time then there are 2 possibilities:

1) The files are getting downloaded but some computer security is blocking the files from updating.

-Running as an administrator can fix this in some cases. If that doesn't work then you might want to try disabling your antivirus

2) Something is interfering with the actual download process.

-The router is the most common cause for this error. I know some people have tried port forwarding already, but have you tried bypassing the router entirely so you're plugged directly into the modem? That will tell us for sure if the router is part of the problem here.

Let me see if I can get to everyone here.

Software firewall disabled. Av off. Running as Admin.

Ports forwarded. Tried running it straight from the modem (much to the dismay of the rest of my household), did the same thing. So router or no router, it doesn't seem to matter. Even set QoS (Quality of Service) on the router to give maximum bandwidth to my MAC addy. Saw a little improvement with this last one, but not much.

The launcher does seem to keep stopping. The problem is I'm either working or sleeping and can't afford to babysit what should be an automatic process. Restarted it again when I got home tonight.

Ran a tracert, no major slowdowns. Dxdiag showed nothing out of the ordinary.

I miss anything?

Just passed the 70 hour mark. Timer says ETA 7:20:00.
