This isn't the only piece of gear that does this, but IMO it's the most annoying.

Why is it that you can equip Marrow's Song and it will seamlessly augment your buffs, but when you unequip it (say, swapping it out for a shield) it cannot adjust your buffs and instead CANCELS the affected songs.

When my Troub equips it, 10% speed is added to Selo's and Combat Art Reuse is added to Aria of Magic. I don't have to do a thing.

When I UNEQUIP it, Selo's is canceled. Aria of Magic is canceled. Both with the message "Your xxxxxxx cannot be maintained because you no longer meet it's requirements." That is obviously a false statement. 2s recast on Selo's, 6s on Aria. It's a minor nuisance, but it's one of those things that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Working as intended.

If you want the effect from a piece of gear, you're supposed to wear it full time.

Xalmat wrote:

Working as intended.

If you want the effect from a piece of gear, you're supposed to wear it full time.

I think you fail to see the point.

Equip it ... it adds the effect to your buff. Unequip it, it should remove the effect from your buff. That would fit what you are saying and there would be no point to my original post.

But instead it CANCELS your buff which is in no way, shape or form a part of the effect. The act of unequiping it cancels spells you have cast on your group; it debuffs you.

Harbinger of Malcontent increases the damage of a Berserker's offensive stance proc by 30%. Does it CANCEL your offensive stance when you unequip it? No. That would be the equivalent.

The old Greaves of Furious Execution function like Marrow's Song. They add power regen to the Destructive Rage buff. When you put them on they augment the buff, when you take them off they remove that augment and CANCEL the buff. But you can't take them off in combat, which is why I say Marrow's Song is more annoying - i.e. it's in the Primary/Secondary slot so you can swap out in combat.

The 4-piece set bonus on the VP armor does NOT function that way. That bonus adds melee skills to your Berserk buff. When you take off a piece of armor it does not cancel your Berserk - assuming you are Berserk. Actually, that one doesn't even take off the effect. Of course it's a moot point since you can't possibly do it in combat.

Bottom line, if you ADD an effect to a buff when you equip a piece of gear, wouldn't logic dictate that you would REMOVE the effect from the buff when unequiping that piece of gear?

There's probably a mechanical reason this has to be this way. I know that for many buffs in the game, when you alter an AA or equip an item that will improve a buff, you have to recast that buff in order for the new effect to show up on the buff. As an Illusionist, if I un-equip my Mythical, it drops my Rapidity buff. The Mythical makes this buff group wide.

In any event, I'd say this was a mechanical, behind the scenes requirement that is causing that functionality.

It is canceled because there was an exploit that people used to keep the buffs going w/o using the item.

Funny thing is there is still an exploit that allows you to keep the buff going.
