Tech guys:

I give up. I have tried everything I can think of. I've updated drivers, checked for malware, waited for the memory issue. But I'm having trouble staying connected for more than 5 - 15 minutes at a time most days. Sometimes I can get along fie for hours. Sometimes not. I don't know what to do. I built this computer with EQ in mind. I wanted to be able to play the game at the best performance level I could to see things that I never could before and to really enjoy my experience.

And now not even on minimal graphics can I stay connected or not freeze up.

I'd like to note that I can play games such as "Ghostbusters: the Video Game" and "Empire: Total War" on maxed graphics without issue or with just minor issues. Even LoN has been crashing. Ingame or out of game. If I can't get some of this fixed, and soon, I'm going to have to kill my sub to save money for other things. I'm not threatening or being a pouty customer - I just can't maintain a reliable, stable connection to the game.

Here's my DXDiag. Take a look. If it's something I can tweak, please tell me. I'll tweak it. I can't change the hardware itself. That's out of the question. I've tried going at it with many other programms running, and I've tried running it with no other programs running. So, tell me what you can. Thank you.

------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 10/26/2009, 14:59:12 Machine name: XXXX Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7100) (7100.winmain_win7rc.090421-1700) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Greetings,

I read through your post and I don't see any mention of what happens when you crash. Does it drop you back to desktop or to character select when it crashes? Does it give you an error message when it does so? The answer to those questions will help us to locate the problem.

Take your pick - the answer is, "yes".I've been getting the out of memory error Rothgar has been refering to and working on. This one happens upwards of 10 times in a 3hr session.I've beeng getting randomly lagged out at mailboxes when I try and send replies, which then results in either a complete freeze or a boot to character select.I've been getting randomly booted to character select. This one is new, just started this morning.I've been having issues where the screen will go black and the computer will lock up solid. This one is EQ only.I've been having issues where the "emergency overheat" on my vidcard goes off. This one ISN'T EQ only but happens with this more than any other game or application. I've done some research and have found out that in general this is a driver conflict... but 3 times in a row in an hour period in EQ when I can go days without seeing it in Empires or anything else I do? And no, it isn't actually overheating. As you can imagine, I'm getting frustrated.

Generally speaking a crash to desktop will indicate a driver/settings issue while a crash to character select will indicate a connection issue. Since you are reporting both, we will need to take steps related to both possibilities.

First, open your graphics card options and disable adaptive anti-aliasing and Catalyst AI. Both of those features have caused problems in the past and they might be causing the issue here.

Next, let's bypass your router(assuming you use one). Most connection issues that drop you to character select are caused by a blocked port on the router. Bypassing the router will tell us whether or not the router is part of the problem here.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

With this version of catalyst, I'm not sure how to go about through the system to disable it. If you could provide a couple tips on that, that would help.
