View Full Version : Free looking glitching out?

So ever since I upgraded to Windows 7, I've been having this occur, and it's hard to explain.

Sometimes when I'm walking along and using free look (left mouse button), the camera will pop into another direction and confuse me as to where I'm walking. I'm using "view relative" in view options. I don't remember having this issue before, but now I am. I believe it also happens sometimes when not using free look, but when just walking normally and using right mouse button to turn. Not sure how else to explain it but it's getting annoying, wonder if anybody has any idea what might be causing it.

Hi,

I'm sorry I won't be able to help you because I have the exact same problem and nothing seems to help.

I updated my mouse driver and firmware, increased mouse frequency, changed launcher and eq2 to launch as administrator, updated my graphic driver to newer ones, rolled back graphic driver to old one etc....

It was all working fine on vista and now it's all buggy with windows 7.

Anyone else encountering the same problem ? Also would it be possible to have a TSR insight please on the topic ?

It's a bit disturbing to have the camera switch positions erraticly/randomly and falling off a bridge to my death.

It's also somehow making character selecting hard because the screen keeps changing direction. I have to resort to group/raid window 100% of the time now.

Thanks for the answer, I followed up your link and let the installer do the work, seems like it installed some files. I'll try in game as soon as possible and see if it fixes the problem. Hope to have good news for my next post

Well, sadly the problem is still there. Though I learned some things while experiencing in game.

The problem of the camera switching direction randomly seems to happen only when pressing or releasing the mouse button. Once either the left or right click is pressed and kept as such, I can move the camera as much as I want it, it will never glitch, though as soon as I release/repress it, I may encounter a camera glitch.

That's why it's pretty disturbing in game when you use the camera to turn, because it's a lot of micro turn, and each one of them may "proc" a glitch which might get you in trouble.

Well anyway thanks for the idea, I'll keep looking on my side and if you happen to anything else to try, I'm up for it.

So if you run that installer on Windows 7, it will automatically download Directx11? I have Directx 11 installed now so that could be causing the issue. In addition, if you currently have Directx11 and we follow your directions, will that downgrade us to Directx9? AND, assuming it will downgrade us to Directx9, is that really a good option since a lot of us will be missing out on all the cool Directx10 graphical improvements that we take advantage of in other games?

OK well me my gf my brother and a couple of friends all upgraded and we all have this issue in windows 7. The character is nearly uncontrollabe when using the mouse to look around it randomly becomes super sensitive and moving it less then a milileter will cause the character to do a 720 spin and end up looking straight up or down. We have everything from super computers to crappy old laptops. We are not we todd did, we have tried sensitivity settings and turning off all the mouse features in windows 7 control panel we could. This is a windows 7/EQ2 issue tech support should address this quick before more people start the switch. Do this on your computer as well as your brothers and friends and let me know if they are all Directx 11. If they are, it could be Directx 11 related.
using the dxsetup given by daniel doesnt downgrade you to dx9, I used it and it simply install missing component to your dx11. You know like sometimes you want to play a game and you're missing a dll or something eventhough you have directx installed.

Under dxdiag I still have directx11.

and again, problem still there, I'm short of idea to try in order to fix this issue

Yah I did a little research and apparently it's impossible to downgrade your version of DirectX without going through some extreme measures.

Can Daniel from tech support provide us with some more attempts at a workaround? This is extremely frustrating.

I have up to date mouse drivers. When I did a clean install of Windows 7, I just copied over my old EQ2 directory to the new OS. I'll go ahead and delete those settings and let you know if it fixes the issue. How can I make sure I also have DirectX 9.0c on my system in addition to DX11? Perhaps I don't have the DirectX 9.0c files and I need them? I did run the dxwebsetup already, so I probably have had them since I installed the OS.
Amazing, I was just going to log in and report this very fault. I have tried 3 mice now and all do this error. I use free look and depending on where mouse pointer is it either flicks screen to a random location or sometimes resets pointer into centre of the screen. I did a new install after putting on W7 as others here and now this problem rears its ugly head.

To say it is frustrating is an understatement as it usually happens at key times where I am looking around then suddenly am facing floor. Please look into this further and get it sorted. It maybe me but it also seems to get progressively worse over time and also seems to be affected by the right hand mouse button.

Actually right mouse click look jumping has been a issue for sometime, I honestly gave up and just deal with it. It reared it's ugly head on me years ago and I have seen a dozen threads on it and all in all the same thing every time was no real answer. I have heard mouse/drivers/dx version/video card driver revision and have been through them all to no avail. Very annoying, not repeatable unless you right click on and off several times and boom sky or floor. Different hardware doesn't help as a full new PC with fresh eq2 installs and it persisted.

Everytime one of these threads goes unanswered they basically state they are going to send the info off to QA for testing.

Took me a min to find one thread I had talked about the issue but here it is.

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=433077

Real shame to hear this. I had never noticed this previously when running Vista and without wanting to sound melodramatic I simply can't put up with this problem. Reading the previous posts I sincerely hope that the alternative start up proves to be a stop gap fix. If this turns out to be a voice chat error then I will not be happy as the whole reason for a full reinstall was due to voice chat errors. Ah well, I hope this gets sorted as it may just be the tip of the iceberg as more and more switch to W7.

It may sound odd but its almost reassuring that others are seeing this error. I thought I was going mad and was worried about how to tackle the initial post Anyway all drivers are current and I even ended up removing the Razer drivers in case they had made things worse. I have changed every setting i could find under mouse options and still the problem persists. At times it seems to be every other click and I simply can't put up with this long term.

End tasking the vivoxvoice service seems to have fixed the problem. Since end tasking it, I haven't had the issue.

The devs might want to look into what's causing the voice service to make the mouse look glitch out.

Yup, I use the new super duper launcher purely to update now. Then close the thing down and run game from everquest2.exe. What was the reasoning behind the new launcher anyway? I don't see anything of any use that called for any of it. Why on earth do I care who is online when I am not, and if I am not in game why do I feel the need to speak to them? It's not as if logging in to chat was ever such a chore.

Ah well, I'm sure there is a bigger picture I am missing but I must admit to being cheesed off with new introductions forced upon me that I would much rather do without.

Any update on whether this is going to be looked at or not? It is a bit of a nuisance having to update through launcher then close it down to then run game via everquest2.exe. As stated previously this seems to happen when a new install of EQ2 is put onto a new install of W7. Any chance of trying to reproduce this fault, or is it worth me speaking with Vivox on this matter?

Running Windows 7 64 bit, this thread helped me solve the problem. I have to launch everquest2.exe and no more mouse popping, I could just click along the bottom of my toon and the mouse would snap to the center of the screen, was having the look up problem as well. Tried mouse drivers, old video drivers, and options in the game.

Sony, your forum search is horrible.. I only found this post by manually going page by page. Having messages pop up from 2004/2005 surely don't address issues in the current game.
