View Full Version : EAX not showing as an available option

So I was using WinXP Pro 32-bit. I have a SoundBlaster X-FI XtremeMusic sound card.

I was able to choose EAX before under the Sound/Sound Provider option. Then I did a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit, upgraded my RAM from 4 gigs to 8 gigs, then copied over my entire EQ2 directory to the new system.

I ran EQ2, which runs fine, except now when I go into Sound/Sound Provider options, EAX is not even an option anymore. The only options are "Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio" and "Dolby surround."

Yes, I did install the latest sound card drivers after I did a clean install of Win7. I'm using version 2.18.0013 of the X-fi series driver. Yes I did install the latest DirectX11 after doing a clean install of Win7.

Please tell me how I can get EAX options to show up so I can start using hardware for my sound instead of the software based options I have currently available.

This is because Microsoft got rid of DirectSound 3D from Windows Vista and 7. DS3D was the main method of acceleraing sound through hardware. Eventually Creative made a program called "Alchemy" that redirects all DirectSound3D to OpenAL for the compatible software/game. You can get it from their site.

http://connect.creativelabs.com/alc...20XFi/Home.aspx

Does alchemy actually work in windows 7? I used it in vista but when I upgraded to 7 I couldn't find anything on creatives site that said it would work in 7.

Also, if you just copied the eq2 directory, the alchemy tool won't be able to find the eq2 install directory to automatically convert eq2. You can find the manual settings for games here:

http://connect.creativelabs.com/alc...s/AllItems.aspx

Den

Excellent thanks for the info! I already had Alchemy downloaded and installed, but never ran it and didn't have any idea what it was for. After adding Everquest II to Alchemy, EAX options are now enabled!

Thanks again for the info.
