Coercer is still there though. still easy to find groups/raids though. if you want pure utility go bard.

4. My illy never gets boring, always fun to play.

Really depends on whos playing for whats fun. play what you like

I play an illusionist and a warlock and would say that each class has its advantages. If you have to play one class, then I would suggest rolling an illusionist or coercer. However, it might be worthwhile leveling an enchanter and warlock simultaneously to see which you prefer.

The illusionist can solo heroic mobs more easily than the warlock can due to the class' excellent CC capabilities. The warlock's CC capabilities consist of a single-target root and a multi-target root. With the warlock, I find it is usually wise to focus on blue or green mobs.

The warlock excels at burning through linked encounters composed of non-trash mobs. The class fulfills this role most effectively when grouped. The warlock also has access to translocate, which is a phenomenal time-saving spell.

Both illusionists and warlocks are desired in groups and raids.

The illusionist is one of the best-designed classes in the game. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the warlock. After level 50, there is a huge imbalance between the warlock and the wizard. At higher levels, warlock spells are often inferior to the equivalent versions obtained by wizards. The wizard endline AAs are better than the warlock endline AAs. The wizard gets evac, while the warlock gets a minor power buff if I remember correctly. Warlocks are also reliant on linked encounters for doing maximal damage. This was a major issue in RoK where much of the content consisted of single-target mobs. I recently came back to EQ2 and was dismayed to see that nothing has been done to improve the situation for warlocks.

As it currently stands, illusionists and coercers are more evenly balanced against one another. Coercers generally have more effective spells and are more versatile, whereas illusionists have better AAs and provide more consistent performance. Both provide utility and are capable of good dps. Coercers can solo more rapidly but are more restricted in the role they fulfill when grouped. The choice between the two classes is almost equivocal.

Hope that this helps.

If mobs don't die fast enough or hit too hard once the stun/stifle wears off, throw in a mez, wait for the stun/stifle to be castable again, and continue (this is mostly for heroic mobs).

Oh... as for illy versus warlock... It really depends on what you're after.

From a raid perspective, I'd go illy simply because it may be easier to get in. Most guilds I've seen will utilize multiple chanters, but only 1 sorcerer. But if you're after top stop on the parse, you'll have better luck with a warlock (not saying illy's can't dps (I'm around 10k usually), but in my guild, top spot belongs to the warlock or assassin - or necro when he life burns).

From a group perspective, if you're looking for pure dps, go Warlock. Although in most groups, I'm top dps on my illy, so it also depends on group setup and the other skill/gear of the group members.

Ultimately you need to go with what you'll like. Try both and go from there.
