View Full Version : Monk Blue Stats

I've got a monk on Unrest.

I love him to bits, but I find tanking anything except mentored zones impossible, and my DPS has had me kicked out of a few groups before.

I want to maximise my DPS, I don't mind not tanking, and I was wondering what blue stats would be good, from what items, and where do those items drop?

Also, does any one know about the items that boost combat art damage? I am wondering if they are worth going for or is things like Double Attack better, is there a cap on all those Combat Art damage bonuses for an 80 monk and how can I work how much extra damage they are giving me?

I've got my fabled (One kill of my mythic), I've got the Headless hat (http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Headless_Hat), most of my T2, T1 Leggings, and the fabled shoulder from the OoB. For jewellery I have pretty basical stuff I pick up, mostly CA damage increases.

Get your T1 or T2 DPS shoulders (either are better than the ones from OoB), you get +12 base CA from the shoulders and having a 3 set of the "Wilderness Warrior" set. If you want to do DPS, get yourself into the full Wilderness Warrior DPS, the other set is really more for tanking and doesn't push out the greatest DPS numbers.

Self buffed you can easily push your haste to 150+, so the main DPS stats to focus on (followed by their caps) are (in no particular order):

+DPS (200, granting +125% additional auto attack damage)

+crit (125 for high level mobs)

+double attack (125 for high level mobs)

+CA base damage (no cap)

+CA damage (calculated per skill, max +CA damage is 0.5*(original damage), so a skill dealing 800-1000 damage will be capped at 1200-1500, +base damage raises this so the same skill with +10 base damage would deal 880-1100 and would have a new cap of 1320-1650)

+attack speed (200, granting +125% increase to attack speed)

+strength (1230ish)

+crushing skill (calculated against mob level at a rate of 6.5*(mob level), so against a level 85 mob the cap is 553)

+any kind of DPS proc (you can have as many as you like)

Remember, in any decent group you are likely to be capped on: +attack speed (200), +strength (1230ish) and with your gear you should be able to get fairly high numbers for crit and DA.

The exact weighting of this changes based a lot on your group set up, so if you have say a dirge, inquisitor, coercer in your group and are maxed on +DPS you may want to swap out your gear for pieces with double attack, crit, and weapon skill instead of over capping on DPS but if you have say a warden who is going to increase your weapon skills by (70?) and you don't have other classes that buff your +DPS, suddenly that DPS mod on gear starts looking really hot.

As for gear upgrades, if you want to DPS I would suggest getting a full set of the T2 DPS along with the "Onslaught" line of jewelry, that should be enough for you to start doing some decent damage. Getting your myth and a good offhand will also be really nice for your DPS. Other than gear, the most important thing you can learn to do is time your CA's between you auto attacks. Go download an auto attack timer (I use one from Razc, but Prophet UI comes with one built in) and start practicing timing your auto attacks. Basically you will land an auto attack, cast a CA, rinse and repeat. You will want to hit the CA right after the auto attack bar fills up so you are not losing any damage from your auto attacks. I remember their being a L80 quest line in Lavastorm that grants a really nice DPS ring, it has something like +25str, +4DPS, +2MC, +2DA and +5crushing, it's called "Ring of the Flamecaller" I think.

I am timing my auto attacks and using bloodwood effigy in my off hand. Do you know of any upgrades I could use over the blood wood?

For Jewelery, this onslaught stuff, where does it drop or where can I buy it?

My haste is about 150

My DPS is very, very low, my attacks do 7% more damage than normal, which not good, but when my ring activates it goes up quite a bit.

My crit is about 28%

My DA is 40

I am not sure my base cap for CA

My CA is 500

I hit with both weapions ever 1.6 seconds

My str just brushs the 1000 mark.

Basically, I suck a need a major revamp.

Can any one tell me what gear would be good, and where does it drop?

The Onslaught jewelry set can be bought from the Shard Infused Merchant for 45 shards or 39 if a crafter makes it. It is a cloak, ear, and wrist.

The easiest way to see how much +base CA damage you have is to just look at Devastation Fist. It will deal a high amount of damage on all mobs with a secondary effect that hits standard mobs only. The secondary hit will hit for 100% of the targets max health unmodified, so your current +base CA damage is just (the current %HP value on Devastation Fist) - (100).

As far an upgrade to the Bloodwood Effigy, you could try for the Woven Gloves out of Guk (I think they drop in Lower Corrider? I forget which one exactly). You could also try and get the Brawler weapon from the TSO questline (it's not terribly good though, I use mine in appearance slot), the mace (Facesmasher I use this raiding at the moment) from the Headless Horseman, or the Nightmare Wraps form VP. There are a couple of other nice weapons for Brawlers in the game but they all come from raids.

Also, your crit and DA are very low for some reason. I would suggest speccing down the brawler strength and intelligence lines if you haven't done so already. The agility and wisdom lines are nice but you need to get that crit and DA up.

My current spec is:

Str 4-4-8-8-2

Wis 4-4-8-8-2

Int 4-4-8

I know it's not the greatest spec ever, but the way I see it with my gear I still need the crit and DA more than the ability reuse (my gear is hardly top end). In a raid my DA will be capped (just barely) depending on group makeup and my crit is only around 100% (so I don't always crit on raid mobs).

I'm a monk who can MT all the TSO zones with 1 healer - it can be done.

I can suggest a few things

Lets assume you are not a regular raider:

If you want to upgrade in either DPS/MT role

Get the T2 shard set as a basic minimum. The hybrid set is better if you plan on a DPS focus, however the MT set has more DAttack and will make you a better tank with better agro control and the loss in DPS is minimal if you get the right gear.

aITEM -839770960 914193883:Signet of Vampire Kind/a

Awesome fabled ring - power/wards. And you can do it x2/week!! If you get a set of friends from several non-raid guilds to hit the zone twice weekly - pretty soon you will all have the 3 set bonus and upgraded jewelry. Its "smart-loot" too!. You will THEN find that Digg,Dayakara and Captain Grush will become achievable.

Get your Mythical --> for a monk, this is the single biggest boost to survivability and MTing. Its worth putting together ROK PUG raids for Pawbuster, VS and Levi.....which these days are PUG territory. Then hit VP, its worth paying for VP update if you can't do it with your own guild Also Levi drops a nice fabled forearm piece which will be your best bet before you can get the T3 piece from Captain Grush.

With T3 shard armor and jewelry + the TSO zone pieces i suggested above you can MT/DPS pretty much any zone including PoF/Guk3/EA(JW)/NA.
